Under the RAISE Act being proposed, there's a point system for immigration. See if you could pass.

My grandfather, who was a fluent English-speaker from Ireland, was a little older, had no job waiting for him and wasn't investing anything except future hard work, would have missed the cut bigly.

Re: Could you immigrate?

You don't qualify to apply
Your score: 17

Minimum score: 30

This September 10th it will be 23 years since I did immigrate, I would not have been able to come here under this proposal.

I score 20, which means I'll have to start caring about soccer.

Re: Could you immigrate?

I got a 26, so I just fall short. I would have made it if it hadn't been more than eight years since I won all of my Olympic medals.

Re: Could you immigrate?

I got 18.

The point system is just another way to pretend to be objective. Immigration restrictions for non-criminals are always about bigotry.

This kinda says it all

I got a 13. Those investing in US options are kinda sparse.

31. I'll be scooping up all those jobs from hard working Americans.

Every American should take this test. I got a 17.

Why do you get 15 points for winning an Olympic medal? That seems... odd.

Probably because now you can compete for us.

My investments are made with US dollars - apparently that's not good enough!

Re: Could you immigrate?

Even if it were, it has to be at least $1.35 million in a new business. You can't just toss the money into the stock market. Though I wonder if they'd let you get away with opening up "Metfairy Investments, Inc.", whose sole purpose is to invest $1.35 million in Icelandic krona into the stock market.

I'm fluent in English and have a master's in math, which is good for 20 points. Maybe I could wangle a job offer if I had to. But I'm 52 years old and Stockholm hasn't contacted me yet about my Nobel Prize in actuarial science, so I'm screwed.

Re: Could you immigrate?

26, mostly because I'm underpaid. A modest bump would get me over the hump

...but only until the end of March when the age would knock me back under.

Re: Could you immigrate?

Are we all assuming our current jobs would be available when we immigrate to the New World? I answered that I have no job offer and got a 17. So even if I had a sweet gig waiting for me that paid at least $155,800, those extra 13 points would just get me to the minimum of 30.

And how Trumpian, too, that if you plan to invest with foreign currency, but the amount is worth less than $1.35M, your broke-ass gets zero points.

39 for me, thanks to that fucking sweet 100m dash I won in retrospect from 2012 when over 6,000,000,000 other people were all found guilty of doping.

(No. Only 24 in reality. Back to Sicily! Or Ireland! Or England! Or wherever any of my ancestors may or may not have come from!)

Re: Could you immigrate?

I scored 33 on the strength of my doctorate and employable job options.

The proposed point system as illustrated above is ludicrous. I think there needs to be some screening process (like criminal records or affiliation with terrorist /crime organiztions), but the proposed guidelines are crazy.

I scored so low on that test that not only would they not let me in but I may actually get thrown out even though I'm native born and parts of my family were here pre-Revolution
