Pack Your Back helping kids

I have to be a boasting Dad for a bit. Last year, my daughter and some of her college friends founded a non-profit organization that collects school supplies for children in Flint and Detroit. Last year was pretty successful. This year they've gained some national recognition through a partnership with the family of "Little Miss Flint" and distributed more than 1,000 backpacks stuffed with school supplies. They've appeared on ABC News, the HuffPo and others across the country. This weekend they appeared on MSNBC on Al Sharpton's show.

This kids weren't seeking the attention -- they just saw a problem and wanted to address it -- but the exposure should help with fundraising for next year's distribution. The kids work very hard on this year round, and I'm proud of them!

Ha. No. Little Miss Flint is just 10.

My daughter lets the other founder do the big television stuff. She takes care of the operational side.

Your daughter and her friends have done a great job helping those less fortunate than themselves. You have every reason to be proud.

The world would truly be a much better place if more people gave more freely of their time, money, and talents to help others in need.

The non-profit my daughter co-founded got a nice write-up today. The organization is really starting to take off. They just got a $50,000 donation from a well-known entrepreneur, following a similar donation he made earlier in the summer. Proud of the kids.
