A lineup posted as a list of Twitter handles instead of names? Sheesh. Good for Jason Heyward!

It's "Social Media Night," apparently.

I've gotta believe that if you were a fan of a team that didn't play the Mets in 2017 and these names were thrown in front of you, you might not get the ballclub on the first try.

I literally said the same thing the other night to my friend at the game about the Reds' lineup of Ervin-Peraza-Votto-Duvall-Gennett-Suarez-Schebler-Barnhart-Garrett. (If it wasn't for Joey Votto in the middle, anyway.)

Nice to see that Cabrera is still hanging in there, despite two recent minor injuries.

0-0 top third.

Gsellman pitches out of trouble in both the 1st and 2nd innings. Currently at 38 pitches.

Zvon Sep 13 2017 01:15 AM Re: IGT 09/12 - Mets @ Cubs - Hearing Footsteps |
Zobrist making d'Arnaud look good by waltzing to 2nd on and attempted steal. Out by a mile.

He's too nitpicky at the plate, too. Keeps letting strikes go by with men on base.
|
Zvon Sep 13 2017 01:33 AM Re: IGT 09/12 - Mets @ Cubs - Hearing Footsteps |
Bryant does not throw home due to Lags huge jump from third. Ha! Bryant sucks.
|
Zvon Sep 13 2017 01:39 AM Re: IGT 09/12 - Mets @ Cubs - Hearing Footsteps |
Shit. And the booth called that :safety squeeze makes it 1-1 Mets.
|
Edgy MD Sep 13 2017 01:43 AM Re: IGT 09/12 - Mets @ Cubs - Hearing Footsteps |
Two out, two on, and 2-2 to Bryant.

That homer was something I won't miss.
|
Zvon Sep 13 2017 01:49 AM Re: IGT 09/12 - Mets @ Cubs - Hearing Footsteps |
Shit, I never should have said he sucked. Cause he really didn't make an error. I usually reserve that kind of talk for a player error.
|
Frayed Knot Sep 13 2017 02:02 AM Re: IGT 09/12 - Mets @ Cubs - Hearing Footsteps |
Oh good, I was hoping the Mets would allow the leadoff hitter to reach base before the night was over.
|
Zvon Sep 13 2017 02:04 AM Re: IGT 09/12 - Mets @ Cubs - Hearing Footsteps |
New York gets one back on a sac fly by d'Arnaud in the 5th. Gsellman done at 93 pitches. Tommy Malone takes the mound & walks his first batter. Grrrrrrr.
|
Edgy MD Sep 13 2017 02:09 AM Re: IGT 09/12 - Mets @ Cubs - Hearing Footsteps |
Man, we can still play that homer game guys. Just 'cause the suits traded all the sluggerinos ... don't let the Cubs have all the phone.
|
Zvon Sep 13 2017 02:12 AM Re: IGT 09/12 - Mets @ Cubs - Hearing Footsteps |
Damn you Schwarber! That wasn't such a horrible pitch. He had to go get it.

I think the batboy (batperson?)also has 26 homers for that club.
|
Frayed Knot Sep 13 2017 02:36 AM Re: IGT 09/12 - Mets @ Cubs - Hearing Footsteps |
A Met pitcher just retired a leadoff hitter!!!!
|
MFS62 Sep 13 2017 02:42 AM Re: IGT 09/12 - Mets @ Cubs - Hearing Footsteps |
OK, so they don't all have 26 homers. It just seems that way.

That nice leaping grab by Rosario almost makes this game worth watching.

Did Ron Darling just crack up as they went to the break?

Because of the expression on the HR catching fans face out in left, if that's what you are referring to.

I guess one inning in a row was as much success as we could handle as Flexen throws another leadoff walk onto the bonfire.

Looks more demented than funny to me. But then again I never caught a HR ball. I have no idea what my face would look like if I did.

John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 13 2017 03:13 AM Re: IGT 09/12 - Mets @ Cubs - Hearing Footsteps |
It's a minor miracle we're not losing by 11 or 12 right now.
|
Edgy MD Sep 13 2017 03:18 AM Re: IGT 09/12 - Mets @ Cubs - Hearing Footsteps |
Minus a couple of good defensive grabs and benevolent umpire calls and yeah, 11 or 12 sounds about right.

The last home run ball I caught was hit by Jim Hickman at the Polo Grounds. I wasn't looking at myself, so I don't know what my face looked like, either. Later

Keep throwing it crazy, Strop. Don't want to make Wilson look bad.

Wow! So this is our little Mets losing game nightly tease here?
|
Edgy MD Sep 13 2017 03:24 AM Re: IGT 09/12 - Mets @ Cubs - Hearing Footsteps |
Now Laggy is the tying run on double deck with two away. Would you pinch-hit Nimmo if that situation comes around?

You're thinking like a manager. Good for you. I'm thinking like a disappointed fan. So I wasn't thinking beyond: "just keep it goin Cabby!" Lost/sad/allAdat.

I think I've given the details here before. Mets were losing, the fans were filing out. Hickman hit one off the corner of the auxiliary scoreboard that hung on the facade of the second deck near the left field foul pole and it caromed into the lower deck right at me. I was so surprised that I dropped it, then just had to bend down a pick it up. There was nobody else around other than the friend who had gone to the game with me. OK, so it wasn't a clean catch. I still don't know how my face looked, but it was probably a look of surprise. Later
