Suggestion for Sub-Forum

Hey guys, would you be interested in starting a guide to visit different stadiums? I would think between all CPF'ers, we could get a pretty comprehensive list.

We just hit the three SoCal stadiums. I think it would be nice to get our thoughts down, post pics, give recommendations on where to sit, what to eat, how to get there, etc.

Done! Maybe do one thread for each ballpark, and we'll refrain from archiving so the threads remain as visitor's guides. Or let's see how things evolve.

Re: Suggestion for Sub-Forum

While we're creating sub-fora, could we PLEASE have one next year for the individual player prediction threads? They totally gunk up the main baseball forum at the start of the year, and it would be nice to confine them to one area that we can just skip over.

Re: Suggestion for Sub-Forum

Agreed (again). They are neat threads but they really would be easier to find later in the year that way too

That's how I feel about music threads in the Non-Baseball Forum. There are so many times I visit that forum just to mark all topics read. If Music was in its own forum I'd know to skip it, like I do with the fantasy league forum.

Worst is when it's a sneaky music thread.

Well, one poster's clever can sometimes be another poster's sneaky.
(and I'm by no means including myself in the clever poster group)

Should I point out that I helped with an e-book that's basically this?

Yes, you def should. Curious, does or will that e-book get updated? I'm sure lots o beers get added everywhere, every season.

You'd have to ask Eno, but I'm unaware of any attempts to update it right now. I've only closely studied Citi/NYC but things have already significantly changed since then.

Re: Suggestion for Sub-Forum

I'd like to cast a vote as being AGAINST too much sub-dividing of forums. If you've got something you want to discuss then start a thread and discuss it, and if you don't want to join in then ignore it,
but either beats the hell out of over-regulated discussions. It's similar to the case I've been trying to make for years now about this place getting far too reliant on "all purpose" threads which, in my
mind, tend to bury topics on Page Whatever of huge threads that could rightfully stand on their own but folks feel compelled to corral into pre-assigned locations - but I've been losing that argument
for years now so just ignore my bitching.

Y'know there's no rule that says one has to use the player projection threads to make numerical projections (I rarely do). But, geez, if we're not going to discuss our expectations for that season's players
or potential players during spring training then what the hell else are we going to discuss during ST? Either way, I fail to see how talk about baseball "clogs" the baseball thread.

btw, I'm fine with the new travel/stadium forum since that'll act as a kind of reference guide that you'll want all in one place and not have individual threads fall off the back into archive-land.
But let's not overdo the management angle, ignoring threads or topics or even people you aren't interested in is quite easy and doesn't involve any heavy lifting.

Re: Suggestion for Sub-Forum

Well yeah, which is why we don't really need a fantasy or a rankings subforum.

but like, if there are 15 threads a week on one topic, say music, especially in a forum so vague as to be 'non-baseball' why not have a subforum for it?

or say separate out the live threads from the one's that are more general.

I know we're limited by the structure, but a "reply as new thread" thing would probably get more threads created.

Can I advocate for an app-based interpretation of the forum? I don't know shit but I think some old-school websites are app-able these days.

Re: Suggestion for Sub-Forum

It's my impression that sub-fora get less traffic (I could be wrong), so that stuff gets missed if its not in the main baseball forum. For instance, i think the film review forum should really just be threads in the non-baseball forum. That way, people who never go to the film review forum will still get to see that there is discussion happening about a particular film or film-related subject. I don't see the point of the segregation. i get the point of archive fora, or complaints/red light fora, because you don't want that stuff clogging up the main fora, but as for the rest... rather than creating another sub-forum, i say go the other way and collapse the promotion and flim review sub-fora into the non-baseball forum. If we want to have insights into other stadia readily accessible, we could just pin it to the top of the baseball forum, couldn't we?

YesYesYes. I follow a couple forums on tapatalk. I don't know if our board's code is compatible with that, but something like it would be a giant leap for CPF-kind.

That's almost true for me.

I've seen major league baseball games in 17 different ballparks.

Eight of them are defunct. Eight of them are still in use. And one of them was a special venue, in San Juan, that still exists but isn't the home field for any major league team.

GONE:
Shea Stadium
Memorial Stadium
Yankee Stadium II
Tiger Stadium
Comiskey Park
Fulton County Stadium
Veterans Stadium
Riverfront Stadium

STILL AROUND:
Citi Field
Camden Yards
Fenway Park
Safeco Field
Nationals Park
Citizens Bank Park
Wrigley Field
PNC Park

STILL AROUND, BUT NOT IN USE BY A MAJOR LEAGUE TEAM:
Hiram Bithorn Stadium

Re: Suggestion for Sub-Forum

I'm envious about that last one. When I visited San Juan, there was no game at Hi Bithorn Stadium that day, but I stopped by just to see the statue of Roberto Clemente.

Stadia no longer there for me are YS, YS II, Polo Grounds, Ebbets Field, Shea Stadium, the Ted and RFK Stadium. At RFK, I saw Washington play the Minnesota Twins, which probably qualifies as some kind of incest.

Places still in use are Citi, Fenway Park and Camden Yards.

Probably, it's pretty new.
I find it amusing how the world has gone from wanting to get the biggest
tv to wanting to do/watch every thing on a hand-held device. Not for me.
95% of my posting here is on a laptop or desktop. I like getting the forum
on the phone and tablet and it's much better than it was a few years ago
but it's more for lookin' and not postin'.
