You have to admire his determination. Although it would be more accurate to phrase it as "He intends to keep trying to play."

Clearly you have not been checking the Surgery SubForum. It's all in there.

Yeah he held a press event today with his arm in a sling.

I'd be pretty determined too to show up for rehab to make millions of dollars. remember, retirement = no cash (barring a settlement)

Rooting? They are demanding it. I'm with you. If Wright wants to try and play again you have to be a pretty disloyal fan of his (and the team) to demand he hang up his cleats. Dave has given so much to us. He deserves our loyal support. I don't think he's doing it for the money Nymr83. He's pretty well off as it is. I don't think he's putting himself thru this grueling comeback process for the bucks. I think that it has become a challenge to him and he is determined to pull it off.

I don't think he is just doing it for the money either, but given how much he stands to gain financially i'm not about to praise him for it.

I don't care who it is, $47 million is nothing to sneeze at. I don't think he's solely

I never got it either. Personally I'm done following sports when I start to adopt the mindset that I'd prefer the players not to play, the pitchers not to pitch, and the team not to win, and yet that seems to be the vibe from too many fans these days.

The players union would go nuts if he walked away and left that much on the table because it sets a precedent for other players. No one would walk away from that much money. Both sides signed a contract in good faith, and teams are aware that such an injury could happen. The Mets have a bunch of very young and very good players who make the minimum or close to it. It all balances out. More power to Wright. I hope he keeps trying and I hope he comes back.

I'm not a real Mets fan. At least, that's what internet users keep telling me for not rooting for David Wright to burn $75 million and go away. Rooting for the Mets means rooting for the insurance company, apparently.

He'll end up disabled

themetfairy Sep 08 2017 01:35 PM Re: David Continued |
Seriously - playing at the MLB level can't be good for someone who has been through so much physical trauma as he has.

Exactly

Frayed Knot Sep 08 2017 01:48 PM Re: David Continued |
Do ya think he might have consulted with doctors and family about this?
|
Ceetar Sep 08 2017 01:56 PM Re: David Continued |
there's not really any evidence to suggest he's harming himself further by playing baseball. At least not more than just generally existing. He's treating the pinched nerves and in general has been shutting it down when he's in pain and can't play even when he was active.

Edgy MD Sep 08 2017 02:27 PM Re: David Continued |
Today's starting pitcher, for what it's worth, also suffers from a debilitative spine condition (spondylolisthesis) and is also a veteran of spinal fusion surgery that left him bedridden for several months.

It's not about doctors and family, FK. IT'S ABOUT OUR NEEDS ONLY. Seriously, I want very much for David Wright to be on the field when we win the World Series. And I want him to break the all-time Mets HR record. He's the uber-Met. I do understand the hand-wringing over financial flexibility and roster planning, but realistically, it's just a game and I want to root for the guys I like.

Edgy MD Sep 08 2017 02:34 PM Re: David Continued |
Jaerock Lee has been such a disappointment.
|
Benjamin Grimm Sep 08 2017 02:39 PM Re: David Continued |
Are you suggesting that David Wright needs to drink more liquid feces? (Wow, that's a callback to a story from more than ten years ago!) You should send him a tweet suggesting that. After all, what harm could it do?
|
cooby Sep 08 2017 02:57 PM Re: David Continued |
LF I am sure he talked to his doctors. But that doesn't mean they are altogether on the same page. I sure as hell don't do everything my doctor tells me. I don't even take half the meds they've described. Why should I?

Frayed Knot Sep 08 2017 04:31 PM Re: David Continued |
When the alternative to listening to family and medical advice is listening to the needs and wants of an internet fan site, I'm kinda hoping he tells the NYM fan base to STFU
|
Ashie62 Sep 08 2017 04:50 PM Re: David Continued |
David Wright is a tough SOB and an uber-Met. My only concern for him is being physically disabled by the age of 50. I wouldn't want him wiped out on a force play or such.

He won't though. he's too good a guy. I want the Mets to play the Monty Python clip when/if he comes back next season. *clang* BRING OUT YOUR DEAD *clang* BRING OUT YOUR DEAD

Frayed Knot Sep 08 2017 07:47 PM Re: David Continued |

Well I don't expect him to literally say it, just "say" it by ignoring them and continuing to work at what he wants to do, what he's being paid to do, and what he still believes he can do.
