Re: Jose

This neat map of historical hurricanes that have followed a similar path to Jose makes it look like a little less than half those hurricanes have hit the US, and only about 10-20% were still hurricanes by the time they got here. But:

- the sample size is small, as it always is for hurricanes
- global warming has warmed the oceans, changing the game completely
- a 10-20% chance is still somewhat scary
- it looks like the Caribbean islands that were hit by Irma might take another hit...this is particularly scary since Irma has already destroyed their communications, so the inhabitants may have minimal awareness that Jose is coming.

I'm pretty sure Nate Silver said that Trump had only a 10-20% chance of winning the election, so it's definitely scary.

Re: Jose

It's already started to head north, which is good, but it could do basically a 180 next week.

Re: Jose

It looks like Jose will make a small circle out over the Atlantic this week -- its forecast position for Friday is basically where it is right now, which is thankfully not over any land -- but it could have a westward trajectory coming out of the circle. We have another two weeks of keeping our eyes on it, in all likelihood.

Re: Jose

It is starting to head northwest, and Long Island is within the cone (albeit on the left edge of it) for this coming Wednesday. There's a good chance we'll feel some effects from it, at least.

My guy says Lower Hudson Valley, Western CT, NYC, and Western LI
will get something nor'easteresque Tues into Wed.

He's never wrong sometimes.

Re: Jose

The center is staying out to sea, but Long Island will probably feel something from it. Bizarrely, the storm has a chance of circling around for a third time.

We're on Tropical Storm Watch. I'm not expecting a major event, but the weather on Wednesday morning won't be fun.

Jose is still projected to make a sharp turn south by the end of the week, which means it may still come around again.

Maria, meanwhile, is so far taking a similar route to Irma. We won't have a good idea how/if it will affect the US until the end of the week.

Katia formed and hung out just off the coast of Mexico in the Gulf while the Irma stuff was going on.
