Equifax Hack

I got popped, and so far the first 5 co-workers I've checked with have gotten popped, as well. Prob a good idea to check, if you haven't already.

Re: Equifax Hack

I seem to have dodged this bullet. I checked, and Equifax said I was safe, and then offered me a chance to sign up for their service, free for one year. Ummm... NO THANKS! I was lucky enough that my personal information wasn't in their compromised database, so I wasn't too tempted to take the opportunity to put my information into their compromised database.

Those fuckers appear to have gotten me too.

Right? "We're really sorry we lost all your shit. You should probably sign up for this service that will alert you immediately if someone opens a line of credit using your stolen shit, or if we lose your shit all over again. Thanks - Equifax"

Re: Equifax Hack

Is there a way to check without providing a ton of info? I don't really want to register for anything, particularly there.

Re: Equifax Hack

You provide your last name and the last six digits of your SSN.

Re: Equifax Hack

Has anyone read that there is a plan in place to notify those affected by mail?
I went on the site the other day and ended up not checking. I decided I didn't
want to (at the time, I'm still mulling) even click on anything there or provide
any keystrokes to them. Who knows if someone or something is still lurking on
their network.

We're still trying to get our tax issues resolved from when KB was victimized.

Hope they get to the bottom of this, catch the fuckers and their fingers fall off.
That whole stock sale thing pisses me off too. Nothing unusual. Really.

Re: Equifax Hack

Sounds like it. From the site:

In addition to the website, Equifax will send direct mail notices to consumers whose credit card numbers or dispute documents with personal identifying information were impacted.

Re: Equifax Hack

Experian and/or TransUnion have gotta be behind this! Our info is basically fucked forever now and it might be wise to pay a 'monitoring' service, and obviously you wouldn't use Equifax so..

Re: Equifax Hack

Thanks... I went to the site again to see if I could find the 'enter last name and
last six of your SS' thing posted about here and in the papers but couldn't locate
it. I'm not signing up for a free year of monitoring and it felt like that's what it was
more about. I think I also heard over the weekend that if you sign up you might
give up your rights to any future settlements that might come about but not sure
if that's true or if that's changed since.

What a mess.

Over the weekend Equifax clarified that its mandatory arbitration clause won't apply to claims arising out of the security breach.

i'm sure the class action suit [crossout:1mk4bvj7]to enrich the lawyers while providing those who have their identities stolen with a few pennies[/crossout:1mk4bvj7] has already commenced, hopefully they are forced into paying a competitor to provide free monitoring.

Re: Equifax Hack

They got me too. I've had two credit cards compromised within the past few weeks, one just last Thursday. Both Amex in the first instance and my bank in the second instance caught it right away. Pain in the ass dealing with a new card, plus we pay a bunch of things off of that second card (the first was a corporate card).

Both KB and I are both on the hot list...

I don't understand why there isn't more outrage over this. (I don't mean
here, I mean in the news). It's like visiting their web-site is one big ad to
sign up for their service in the wake of one of the biggest fuck ups in history.

Re: Equifax Hack

The FTC is investigating the Equifax breach.
Here’s why that’s a big deal.

Re: Equifax Hack

That video in the Post article really pissed me off. And 3 execs dumping stock after they found out about the breach, but before the rest of us did? Super sleazy.

Re: Equifax Hack

I think we need to find a way to have some other secure identifier, one that can be changed if necessary, or periodically, to replace the SSN. We'd still have an SSN, of course, but it would no longer be the key to access all these different kinds of information.

That's easier said than done, I realize, but it's time to start that conversation if it hasn't already been started.

"sleazy" isn't the word i'd use - "insider trading" would be more like it

This is pretty much the basic definition of insider trading.

They might as well save themselves some time and just go out of business right now.
