You have the White Sox losing to the Yankees in the first round, but advancing to the ALCS anyway.

I'd love to see that somehow happen. Steinbrenner would go ballistic.

Edgy MD

The Yankees win, but can't advance to the next round after a string of arrests leaves them gutted.

i'll leave the mistake so as not to kill the joke but for the record i'm picking CHW to beat the Yankees.

I'll freely admit, there's a good dose of wishful thinking in this. I had to pull myself short of picking a Flushing World Championship, though.

Felix Hernandez doesn't qualify for the ROY. He pitched 84 innings last year, well over the 50 minimum and was on the ML roster for more than 45 days.

My predictions are usually worth shit, so here's what I predict, based in part on what I want to happen.

The I think things could actually turn out this way division:
Mets
Phils
Braves
Nats
Fish

The anything can happen other than the Cardinals not winning it division
Cardinals
Pirates
Brewers
Reds
Astros
Cubs

The Mike Cameron makes all the difference division
Pods
Dodgers
Rockies
DBaggs
Giants

The I want a fun summer division
Sox
Jays
Rays
O's
MFYs

The New Moneyball Division
Indians
White Sox
Tigers
Twins
Royals

The Barry Zito Gets Traded Division
Rangers
Angels
Mariners
A's

Phils over Cardinals
Mets over Pods
Mets over Phils

Bosox over Rangers
Injuns over White Sox
Sox over Injuns

Holy crap: Mets over Bosox in the 20th anniversary World Series!

NLMVP: David Wright
NL Cy Young: Pedro!
NLROY: Ryan Zimmerman

ALMVP: Peralta
ALCY: Halladay
ALROY: Johjima

Are you folks (Dickshot aside) writing what you think WILL happen, or what you want to happen?

Benjamin Grimm
Mar 20 2006 07:44 AM

As I said, I'm influenced by wishful thinking.

I picked the Mets to get to the World Series, but lose to Toronto. If I take partisianship out of the equation, I'd say that the Mets have a reasonable shot at the wild card, but I don't expect that they'll reach the World Series.

Yancy Street Gang wrote:

That's a pretty important influence. Threads like these make more sense if they're divided into "wishful thinking" (in which virtually all CPFers will say that they hope the Mets win the Series) and predictions people want to stand by. Some sort of loopy combination of the two is kinda like "Who do you want to sleep with tonight, Gina Gershon or your wife?", without specifying if this is polling your deepest desries or your views on probablility (plus whether your wife will be reading your response).

Elster88
Mar 20 2006 07:53 AM

I like to fanatasize about Gina Gershon while listening to my Steely Dan records.

Bret Sabermetric
Mar 20 2006 08:00 AM

Are you implying that Gina is elderly?

Elster88
Mar 20 2006 08:08 AM

Elderly might be pushing it a bit.

Benjamin Grimm
Mar 20 2006 08:09 AM

She'll be 44 in June, which makes her almost a year older than me. And she's still mighty fine.

There was probably a time when I thought of 44 as too old. (Like maybe when I was 16.) But those days are long gone.

Elster, would Jessica Alba be a better example for you?

Johnny Dickshot
Mar 20 2006 08:09 AM

Talk about fooling yourself. I know enough to know that "predicting" what'll happen is folly. Even those who study probabilities know that. That said, other than putting the Yankees in last place I'm as comfortable with what I "predicted" as I can be.

Benjamin Grimm
Mar 20 2006 08:13 AM

I too think that there's a chance that my predictions will come true. They may not be the most likely scenario, but it's far more likely than me sharing a bed tonight with Gina Gershon. Or Jessica Alba. Or Betty White.

She still looks good to me, too. I just wanted to take a totally unjustified shot at Steely Dan's impending defeat of GNR.

Axl turns 44 this year, too. In his prime he was just as pretty as Ms. Gershon.

She's certainly better looking than that.

Johnny Dickshot

Gina Gershon & I share a birthday. I've seen where it's been listed in some places as the same year as mine, which would shortly make her ... OMG... 40 and not 44.
