Trade trackers

I need volunteers. If various among us pick a recent transaction, each can start an ongoing thread tracking that transaction, updating every few weeks which way the trade is breaking.

Another way to do it is to not only track the trade, but track the Mets player against the alternatives they passed on. So there'd not only be a Paul LoDuca vs. Gaby Hernandez thread, there'd be a LoDuca vs. Hernandez vs. Molina vs. Piazza thread.

Pick a transaction..

I'll track the following:

Seo and Hamulack for
=blue]Duaner Sanchez and =blue] Steve Schmoll.

If no one else wants it, I'll also track Delgado v. Jacobs v. Mientkiewicz. So not the trade for Delgado, but the alternatives the Mets had.

Thanks.

As Mientkiewicz wasn't much of an option for 2006, and Delgado has clearly proven the Mets got the wrong guy before 2005, I don't think it'll be a very thrilling ride, but go for it. I'll do Cameron/Nady.

This invitation applies to trades that already have results in --- Kazmir/-DiazZambrano-Fortunato, for instance.

Yeah, I'm more curious as to the Jacobs/Delgado comparison. I was throwing Mienktiewicz a bone (you're welcome, Dougie).

Well, as that's a challenge trade, it's probably best to have the guy comparing them as options also comparing them as trade items, along with Grant Psomas and Yusmiero Petit.

Last I heard, by the way, Jacobs might lose his assumed starting assignment to Jason Stokes.

Alrighty! That makes sense.

Peeps are not jumping all over this in the lively manner that I had hoped for. I count nine (9) trades of the Minaya era thus far. Rottie has one. The books are closed on one of them and half closed on two others.

January 21, 2006
New York Mets traded Kris Benson to the Baltimore Orioles for Jorge Julio and John Maine.

January 4, 2006
New York Mets traded Jae Seo and Tim Hamulack to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Duaner Sanchez and Steve Schmoll.
Tracked by Rotblatt

November 24, 2005
New York Mets traded Mike Jacobs, Yusmiero Petit and Grant Psomas to the Florida Marlins for Carlos Delgado.

November 18, 2005
New York Mets traded Mike Cameron to the San Diego Padres for Xavier Nady.

April 2, 2005
New York Mets traded Matt Ginter to the Detroit Tigers for Steve Colyer.

March 20, 2005
New York Mets traded Jason Phillips to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Kaz Ishii. =orange](Easy one to track. The Mets, I guess, are winning[?] this one now, but Phillips is still on the course, with Ishii in the clubhouse.)

January 26, 2005
New York Mets traded Ian Bladergroen to the Boston Red Sox for Doug Mientkiewicz. =orange](Another clubhouse transaction with the books half closed. Take this one.)

January 6, 2005
New York Mets traded Vance Wilson to the Detroit Tigers for Anderson Hernandez. (Exciting!)

December 3, 2004
New York Mets traded Mike Stanton to the New York Yankees for Felix Heredia. =orange](Books closed here. Mets lose.)

By the way, looking through the transactions from last season, I stumbled over this briefest of tenures.

March 29, 2005
New York Mets signed free agent Kelly Stinnett.

March 31, 2005
New York Mets signed free agent Mike DiFelice.

April 1, 2005
New York Mets released Kelly Stinnett.
Forgot about that.

I'll take Cameron for Nady.......so am I right in thinking that all I have to do is keep peeps up to date on how both players are doing.( Cam to hit 30+ homers)....

Any trade that ends with Mike Stanton not on the Mets is a good trade.

OK, sure, I'll take the Delgado trade.

Meanwhile, the Mets look to take the early lead in the Cameron/Nady trade, as Cammie strains his oblique in the Padres' next-to-last exhibition game.

How long do we track trades? The Mets got one year of Ishii, and he's now with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows. The Dodgers had one year of Phillips, he was signed by Toronto, played 3 games in the majors this year before being sent to AAA. Does that still need to be tracked?

Nymr83
Apr 30 2006 06:44 PM

with Ishii's tenure as a Met and Phillips' as a Didger over theres no point in following them further.

As far as Rockin Doc goes I havent seen a thread on that trade.

Good point. I figure you track the principles until the end of their contracts, or, in the case of a pre-free agency guy, until the end of the teams' exclusive rights. But Phillips left the Dodgers without compensation, so the books are closed.

Anybody want to carefully caculate who won?

Deals from 2004 which are still open.

July 30, 2004
New York Mets traded Scott Kazmir and Joselo Diaz to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for Victor Zambrano and Bartolome Fortunato.
Tracked by Bret Sabermetric.

July 30, 2004
New York Mets traded Ty Wigginton, José Bautista and Matt Peterson to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Kris Benson and Jeff Keppinger.

That's it. Just those two midsummer bombs.

Here are the others.

January 26, 2004
New York Mets traded Jaime Cerda to the Kansas City Royals for Shawn Sedlacek.

Closed. But this one could be fun to examine. The Royals scored a lot of points with Cerda's productive pitching in 2004, but gave some back with his sub-replacement level performance in 2005, but not nearly enough to give the Mets a chance to win, as the Metskies got crap-all out of Sedlacek.

March 27, 2004
New York Mets traded Timo Perez to the Chicago White Sox for Matt Ginter.

This one looks closed too, and the Mets probably, but not definitely, lost (in case somebody wants to examine). Perez was a reserve outfielder on the World Champion White Sox team (still not used to that phrase). The Mets got some juice out of Ginter before turning him into Steve Colyer. Neither Perez nor Colyer remain on the trading teams' rosters, nor do I think they brought anything in return.

April 3, 2004
New York Mets traded Roger Cedeño to the St. Louis Cardinals for Wilson Delgado and Chris Widger.

This is a sweep for the Cards. Wilson Delgado was a decent emergency fill-in, but I had no idea Chris Widger came in this deal, which suggests what he brought to the table. Cedeño had one modest and one pointless year for the Cards, but add in the productivity of whoever was the person the Cards spent the money the Mets sent along on, they must win in a walk.

June 17, 2004
New York Mets traded Dave Weathers and Jeremy Griffiths to the Houston Astros for Richard Hidalgo.

Books are closed on this. Could go either way depending on how you calculate what the money’s worth. Yeah, probably to the Astros.

August 17, 2004
New York Mets traded Tom Wilson to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Tony Socarras.

Socarras is out of baseball, looks like.

August 27, 2004
New York Mets traded Dan Wheeler to the Houston Astros for Adam Seuss.

I cannot find Seuss. I cannot find him on a bus, I cannot find him with a guy named Gus.

December 3, 2004
New York Mets traded Mike Stanton to the New York Yankees for Felix Heredia.

Closed. Damn we probably lose this one also. How do you lose a Mike Stanton trade?

]April 22, 2005: Major League Baseball announced nine more minor leaguers who have been suspended for testing positive for performance-enhancing substances, a list headlined by former Mets righthander Grant Roberts. All nine players were suspended for 15 games as first-time offenders.

Roberts had been released by the Mets at the end of spring training, as was outfielder Adam Seuss, who was also suspended. Seuss has since re-signed with the Astros, who originally drafted him in 2002 out of UC Riverside. Lefthander Damien Myers of the Tigers organization, also released at the end of spring training, also was suspended.

http://www.carolinaleague.com/article.php?article_id=507

]6/29/05: Salem, VA -- For a second time in 2005 the Salem Avalanche's Roster has undergone a major overhaul ...OF Adam Seuss has been released.

Seuss' career with the Avalanche has come to a close after nearly two seasons with the ballclub. The outfielder had a great start to the 2004 season, and finished the year hitting .283 in 104 games. After being dealt to the New York Mets organization near the end of the 2004 season, Seuss was acquired by the Astros once again in the off-season. Seuss was hitting just .148 in 39 games in 2005.

Great.

May 01 2006 09:33 AM

Cool, Elster looking to track a 2003 trade: Victor Diaz, Joselo Diaz, and Kole Strayhorn.

The return on Burnitz is in the bank for the Dodgers. The Mets didn't have to eat any money on that one, did they?

Could be wrong, but I think the Mets ate money on Burnitz (hence getting Diaz, a better prospect) but ate no money on Alomar.

Frayed Knot
May 01 2006 11:22 AM

No, it was the other way around.

Remember that Burnitz was - and still is - a useful player so the Dodgers absorbed whatever he was still owed.
Alomar, on the other hand, was more or less shot so the Mets & ChiSox worked out a deal where the Mets paid his remaining salary on a delayed basis - not coughing it up (approx $3mil) until the following spring so as to not trigger a lux tax payment.
