Looks like this kid won't have a fond memory of his Mets experience: From today's Daily News ]CATCHING BREAK: Catcher Jesus Montero, a 16-year-old Venezuelan phenom, had a painful tryout. Looking to get a jump on a base stealer from behind the plate, he reached too soon and was clobbered by minor-leaguer Jamar Hill's swing. Observers feared a broken arm as Montero writhed in pain, but that concern proved unwarranted. Montero could command more than the $1.4 million Dominican outfielder Fernando Martinez got last year at 16 if the Mets win the bidding when Montero is eligible in July. He must be quite a prospect. Don't ML teams usually check out foreign prospects in their home country? Bringing him to the US must mean teams think he's something special. Later

Did this supposedly occur in Florida?? If so, what is a 16 y/o unsigned and (because of age) unsign[u:8fbc5202b8]able[/u:8fbc5202b8] player doing in Met camp?

I guess it's legal for him to strut his stuff in a "tryout." He's probably touring some of the camps in Florida to recruit some suitors.
