BLC: Fuck the Queen! Pogues v. Beatles
Rotblatt Mar 17 2006 09:24 AM |
Oh, sure NOW you'll call it a mismatch, but when you're drunk at that "authentic" Irish pub at 2:00 in the morning, hoping desperately that the drunk sorority girl will kiss YOU next, you'll vote Pogues.

I'd like to wish all you Irish people out there a happy birthday.

I've been waiting weeks for my turn to come around again so I could introduce the Pogues. Sometimes I think my turn will never come again (because I'm a man of little patience) so thanks to Rotty for getting them in the contest.

One more reason Rotty's motion shouldn't count --- grabbing bands before guys ahead of him in line.

No objection, I'm just happy the Pogues are in on St. Patrick's Day.

I had half a mind to include the 12-second Beatle classic, "Oh, Danny Boy, the Ulstermen are Calling."

"Her Majesty" would have been appropos with the Fuck the Queen sentiments.

Thanks, WP! I'm sorry about stealing your thunder--I took a quick look this morning and didn't see any claims made on them, but I probably missed it. You want joint custody?

I'm worried that, like the Velvet Underground contests, voting will be suppressed because the Pogues' catalog is not as generally known as many of the others.
|

Yer right.
|
Rotblatt Mar 17 2006 01:49 PM |
Yeah, I gotta find a more mainstream band to champion.
|
sharpie Mar 17 2006 01:51 PM |
They would with me, but so do the Pogues and the Velvets so maybe I'm not your target audience.

The amazon clips aren't playing for me and the iTunes gives me only 3 -- so you can score this a 3-0 Beatles victory from me, or 10-0 -- your choice.

Johnny --- While you were at Tower increasing your Irish music collection you should've picked up "Rum, Sodomy and the Lash" and "If I Should Fall From Grace With God."

True, Liverpool is basically an Irish colony.

Yeah, well I scored 3 Van Morrison discs: Astral Weeks, Moondance (only $7.99) and Best Of... (just 9.99).

"Glad Tidings" is a great song, though the least known/played song on that album. Someday, a fourth-wave ska band will cover it and turn it into an instant Christmas classic.

"Glad Tidings" showed up on an ipod shuffle of mine yesterday when I had to run out to the grocery store. It always makes me happy when that song shows up.

By definition: Beatles 10-0.

This is not how the contest works.
|
Edgy DC Mar 21 2006 09:54 AM |
Agreed, it's important that we vote songs and not brands.

Well, my plan to upset the Fab Four by capitlizing on St. Paddy's Day failed, but it was a battle worth fighting.
