A New Challenge

I'm not sure if all the songs being proposed have to be on the same album/CD. But a great group of musicians led by a pretty good singer appeared on a concert album in the 60's. The Count Basie group (conducted by Quincy Jones) once backed up a singer named Frank Sinatra.

Are we judging the greatness of the singer, the band or the songs? Or all three?

Here are the songs:(I've edited the list down to ten)

Come Fly With Me
I`ve Got You Under My Skin
Shadow Of Your Smile, The
One For My Baby (And One More For The Road)
Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words)
You Make Me Feel So Young
Luck Be A Lady
It Was A Very Good Year
Where Or When
My Kind Of Town (Chicago is..)

Any takers?

EDIT: Just a reminder. Anyone voting against Old Blue Eyes might want to hire someone to start their car for them.

Wow, that's a terrific list!

Not taking up the challenge, but do you have any suggestions for a challenger, MFS62?

Since we're talking about modern groups with a full orchestral sound (strings and horns), maybe Chicago?

Sounds like an interesting matchup

Taking ya up on it, MFS. I'm a Chicago fan from waaaay back.

This is all early pickings-- as far as I'm concerned that 1980's shit didn't count. Though they had some great stuff in the 1970's...

1. Wake Up Sunshine

2. Make Me Smile

3. So Much to Say/Anxiety's Moment/WV Fantasy

4. To Be Free/ Now More Than Ever

5. 25 or 6 to Four

6. Beginnings (my favorite)

7. Questions 67 and 68 (very close second)

8. Does Anybody Really Know What Time it Is?

9. Poem For the People

10. South California Purples

Bring it on. (I'm too much of a getleman, and you're too nice, for me to add the customaty last word there)

You can start the thread.
Feel free to match up any of those songs against any on my list.

Did someone's (forget who) comment about "If You Leave Me Now" scare you off? I still think that was their best song- the most musically complete. And I don't remember some of the songs on your list. Gee, you must be older than I am. :)
