BLC: They Might Be Giants vs. Led Zeppelin
Willets Point Mar 21 2006 03:12 PM |
This is probably suicidal, but why not aim high? It should be good for laughs at least.
|
Edgy DC Mar 21 2006 03:17 PM |
Well, a reason not to aim high is to have a better chance of winning and moving up.
|
cooby Mar 21 2006 03:19 PM |
I don't know any of them...
|
Willets Point Mar 21 2006 03:30 PM |
Aim low and lose and you're stuck so I work my way from the top down.

"Boss Of Me" is the Malcolm & The Middle theme song.

I'm sorry not to see "Your Racist Friend" and "New York City."

They're on the shortlist. In fact, why the hell did I cut "New York City"? Regardless, it looks like Led Zep is quivering in their boots.

I did. It seemed in the last matchup that some people are just sick of it and voted against it just because of that. I like 'Stairway' although this whole BLC thing is really forcing me to revisit a lot of classic tuneage and I'm finding things I haven't heard in a long time that I really like.
No idea. Unfortunately I never saw them live. I've only heard it on that BBC album. I love it when they do that Jerry Lee Lewis type shit with the manic pounding on the piano.

First of all, the dis of Aerosmith is unforgivable. However, I think you have a favorable matchup here, because I don't like soup's choices. Problem is, you're missing some great songs (Snail Shell, I Palindrome I, Boat of Car, Older), plus you completely ignored the "No!" album, which kicks ass. For what it's worth, let's take a quick spin through GoogleFight and see how "Particle Man" really turns out: Triangle Man def. Particle Man Universe Man def. Triangle Man Looks like they only got it half right.

The TMBG list leaves off my favorite: "They'll Need a Crane."

"Put Your Hand Inside the Puppet Head" has the most iconic bridge ever.

The Might Be Giants are the finest band ever to come out of Brooklyn which has to count for something in my book. Fans of Little Anthony and the Imperials or Public Enemy might disagree, however.
|
Edgy DC Mar 22 2006 10:02 AM |
Well, all three challenge the defintion of band, and TMBG challenges the definition of "from Brooklyn."
|
Willets Point Mar 22 2006 10:57 AM |
TMBG are from the Boston suburbs (Lincoln, MA - hence the title of their second album) and settled in Brooklyn as adults.

Interesting, I always thought that song was about divorce. Maybe a funny divorce?
|
Johnny Dickshot Mar 22 2006 11:05 AM |
It's the exaggerated imagery that I find funny.
|
Willets Point Mar 22 2006 11:19 AM |
Yea I know, I was just funning with you. Part of TMBG's brilliance is they are hillarious and heartbreaking at once.
