If you really don't know much about Lizzy I urge you to pick up 'Live and Dangerous"....it's just amazing.

Sweet. At WP's suggestion, I'm mixing things up a bit, including a post-McGowan song--a damn fine one, though.

1. The Sunny Side of the Street (Best Of)
2. If I Should Fall from the Grace of God (Best Of)
3. A Pair of Brown Eyes (Best Of)
4. Fairytale of New York (Best Of)
5. Streams Of Whiskey (Best Of)
6. Whiskey In the Jar (Sunnyside of the Street)
7. Tuesday Morning (Waiting for Herb)
8. Thousands are Sailing
9. I’m a Man You Don’t Meet Everyday (Rum, Sodomy & the Lash)
10. Misty Morning, Albert Bridge (Best Of)

Thanks Rotblatt!

I'm annoyed that in iTunes "Live and Dangerous" is listed as a partial album. Why do they do that? I would have bought it but I'm not going to bother if I can't get the whole thing.

Come on, somebody, vote. I'll have to educate myself on Thin Lizzie other than the couple of songs I know but someone else should start.

I'm about 50/50 on knowing irish's selections, and too busy to learn more right now. I'll vote this evening.

I'm tryin'. Checked a used CD store during lunch. No Lizzy. :(

What if they gave a challenge and nobody came?

Johnny Dickshot

I'm like 20% on both these guys.

Just a nutty idea, but we could have a special Elitist Division for these bands that don;t generate 10 votes.

soupcan

I'm with Dickshot at about 20%

I sampled all the Lizzy tunes on iTunes last night.

I'm familiar with most of them by the way they sound, 'The Boys Are Back in Town' being the one that I can recognize by the title.

Should we have a rule that a band challenge must have a certain number of voters in order for the new challenging band to be included on the ladder?

Just like in the 70's Lizzy get no respect in America, back then is was a lot of bad luck and heroin but now it's CPF apathy.

Alright!

Already the Pogues didn't generate a lot of action in their Beatles contest since their catalogue isn't as well known as it should be. Add to that Thin Lizzie who never really broke over here makes these bands problematic. I don't want a special elitist division - maybe encourage people to vote only on the songs they know and call all other ties.

"Boys Are Back in Town" is the only Thin Lizzie song I know, but I would vote for "Fairytale of New York" over it. Which would make me 5.5 Pogues to 4.5 Thin Lizzie. As a Pogues fan that doesn't seem quite right but if people think that's a way to go in these kind of contests I would go along with it.

are these Pogue songs available anywhere here or anywhere?

I really tried this morning on the basis of muddy 30-second clips on Amazon and iTunes. Based on that the Pogues win, even though the twin-geetar attack of BABIT still rocks me world.

I listened to the samples the other day.
I cant vote by them-I dont think that would be fair.
I am familiar with one Pogues song from yrs ago, but I dont remember the name and havent heard anything that sounds like it in those samples.

Ill pass on Pogue polls.

I guess this one is over - Pogues win. Why didn't the sponsors vote?

Rotblatt
Mar 27 2006 11:33 AM

I didn't want to queer the pitch--I think irish felt the same way. I prefer to vote after a couple others have voted.

Maybe we should have a rule that a minimum # of votes have to be cast before calling a contest? And until that # has been reached, the challenge remains open?

sharpie
Mar 27 2006 11:35 AM

But I think that most people who might consider voting in this contest have decided that they don't know enough about one or the other band.

Mar 27 2006 11:35 AM

Yeah I would have voted if there were more votes.

Rockin' Doc
Mar 27 2006 02:16 PM

There are several matchups that I have refrained from voting in because I wasn't adequately familiar with one or both of the bands. Unfortunately, I don't think a 30 second sound bite of a song online is adequate to form an opinion of a song. The can be helpful to jog my memory on some songs that I didn't recognize at first, but otherwise they are sufficient for me to vote on the basis of them.

This one's been out so long I think we have to call it for the Pogues based on Willets' vote.
