Sweet. At WP's suggestion, I'm mixing things up a bit, including a post-McGowan song--a damn fine one, though.

Thanks Rotblatt!

Come on, somebody, vote. I'll have to educate myself on Thin Lizzie other than the couple of songs I know but someone else should start.

I'm about 50/50 on knowing irish's selections, and too busy to learn more right now. I'll vote this evening.

What if they gave a challenge and nobody came?

I'm like 20% on both these guys.

I'm with Dickshot at about 20%

Just like in the 70's Lizzy get no respect in America, back then is was a lot of bad luck and heroin but now it's CPF apathy.

Already the Pogues didn't generate a lot of action in their Beatles contest since their catalogue isn't as well known as it should be. Add to that Thin Lizzie who never really broke over here makes these bands problematic. I don't want a special elitist division - maybe encourage people to vote only on the songs they know and call all other ties.

Zvon Mar 23 2006 07:52 PM |
are these Pogue songs available anywhere here or anywhere?
|
Johnny Dickshot Mar 24 2006 07:34 AM |
I really tried this morning on the basis of muddy 30-second clips on Amazon and iTunes. Based on that the Pogues win, even though the twin-geetar attack of BABIT still rocks me world.

I listened to the samples the other day. I cant vote by them-I dont think that would be fair. I am familiar with one Pogues song from yrs ago, but I dont remember the name and havent heard anything that sounds like it in those samples. Ill pass on Pogue polls.

I guess this one is over - Pogues win. Why didn't the sponsors vote?
|
Rotblatt Mar 27 2006 11:33 AM |
I didn't want to queer the pitch--I think irish felt the same way. I prefer to vote after a couple others have voted.
|
sharpie Mar 27 2006 11:35 AM |
But I think that most people who might consider voting in this contest have decided that they don't know enough about one or the other band.
|
metirish Mar 27 2006 11:35 AM |
Yeah I would have voted if there were more votes.
|
Rockin' Doc Mar 27 2006 02:16 PM |
There are several matchups that I have refrained from voting in because I wasn't adequately familiar with one or both of the bands. Unfortunately, I don't think a 30 second sound bite of a song online is adequate to form an opinion of a song. The can be helpful to jog my memory on some songs that I didn't recognize at first, but otherwise they are sufficient for me to vote on the basis of them.

This one's been out so long I think we have to call it for the Pogues based on Willets' vote.
