Picayune question: Does the silly "must challenge another band prior to a rematch challenge" rule apply to the winner and/or loser here? The way I see this going, we'll have lots of tight 2, 3 and 4-band pileups where movement is restricted.
|
Willets Point Mar 23 2006 10:21 AM |
Dunno. I'm pretty much going to accept the winner of this matchup as final and won't challenge the Beatles if the Stones lose.
|
Edgy DC Mar 23 2006 10:21 AM |
Well, the rule is "must have another victory before demanding a rematch." It can be a defensive victory

Going in, I'm thinking, "Good lineup by Willets, but, well, that 'Ticket to Ride'/'I Wanna Be Your Man' matchup should swing my way," and here we are tied 1-1-1 on that one.

Now 2-2-1 in "Ticket to Ride" vs. "I Wanna Be Your Man."
|
sharpie Mar 23 2006 10:52 AM |
Maybe "I Wanna Be Your Man" has female appeal as Cooby and Scarlett voted for it. I don't understand the vote, however. "Ticket to Ride" is a masterpiece.
|
Willets Point Mar 23 2006 11:06 AM |
It should be noted it was a deliberately stupid choice in honor of the competitor.
|
cooby Mar 23 2006 11:08 AM |
I like that song. It is now running through my head. Although Ringo is singing it
|
Edgy DC Mar 23 2006 11:10 AM |
Yeah, I know and respect the Ringo appeal, but, of course, we're voting on the Stones recording.
|
cooby Mar 23 2006 11:12 AM |
Yes yes, I know, but I can't help what happens in my head
|
sharpie Mar 23 2006 11:29 AM |
The Beatles version is better but still...

I always thought "When I'm 64" would have been an ideal Ringo selection for Sgt Pepper. Similarly, he should have sung "Honey Pie" on The Beatles instead of "Good Night."

Ha-ha dead John Lennon, guess Ringo got the last laugh there, huh? "Help!" vs. "Paint it Black" THE BEATLES "Revolution" vs. "Let’s Spend the Night Together" TIE "A Day in the Life" vs. "Sympathy for the Devil" THE ROLLING STONES "Strawberry Fields Forever" vs. "Gimme Shelter" THE ROLLING STONES "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)" vs. "Midnight Rambler (Live)" THE ROLLING STONES "Paperback Writer" vs. "No Expectations" THE BEATLES "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" vs. "Wild Horses" THE ROLLING STONES "She Said, She Said" vs. "Street Fighting Man" THE ROLLING STONES "A Hard Day's Night"" vs. "Shattered" TIE - I dig 'Shattered' the most and 'A Hard Days Night is really what I love about the Beatles. "Ticket to Ride" vs. "I Wanna Be Your Man" THE BEATLES THE ROLLING STONES - 6 / THE BEATLES - 4 This was tough. Nothing to do with the Stones but I've just been reminded of it:: There is a great deleted scene on the Pulp Fiction DVD. Vincent and Mia have a conversation when Vincent comes to pick her up prior to going to Jackrabbit Slim's. Mia asks Vince if he is a 'Beatles Man' or an 'Elvis Man', because, as she proceeds to explain, EVERYONE is one or the other, not both. Vincent, as it turns out, is of course an Elvis Man. In the next scene which is included in the movie, when Vincent questions the type of place they are going to eat, she replies that an Elvis Man will love it.

The most recent Pulp Fiction release is excellent. It's a two disc set. Included is one subtitle track with information along the lines of "Pop-Up Video".
|

Then he would've sung both "Honey Pie" and "Honey Don't."
|
Edgy DC Mar 23 2006 12:08 PM |
But not "A Taste of Honey" or "Wild Honey Pie."

Plus, in my head, Ticket to Ride is corrupted by The Carpenters' cover version.
|
cooby Mar 23 2006 12:15 PM |
Now Ticket to Ride is going through my head. Beatles, thankfully
|
Edgy DC Mar 23 2006 12:15 PM |
So because a cut-rate Beatles track beats a top-shelf Carpenters track, it works against the Beatles in this contest. Circles within circles...
|
sharpie Mar 23 2006 12:16 PM |
I think you meant a top-shelf Beatles track and a cut-rate Carpenters track.
|
Edgy DC Mar 23 2006 12:24 PM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Mar 23 2006 01:45 PM |
Well, no, if I'm reading the circles right in the heads of voters, a cut-rate Beatles track ("I Wanna Be Your Man") is superior to a top-shelf Carpenters track ("Ticket to Ride"), so it's counting against the Beatles in the actual contest of a top-shelf Beatles track ("Ticket to Ride") against a near-cut-rate Stones track ("I Wanna Be Your Man").

Did you actually go through and compare the individual songs in each matchup and pick a matchup winner? Or did you just say to yourself, "I like the Beatles better, so they win each matchup". One of these methods is correct. The other is not.

Dickshot enigmatically gives us "Listen to Her Heart" over "Paint it Black" in the Heartbreakers/Stones matchup, but not "Help!" over "Paint It Black" in the this one.
|
sharpie Mar 23 2006 06:19 PM |
Ergo, Dickshot likes "Listen to Her Heart" better than "Help!"
|
Edgy DC Mar 23 2006 06:22 PM |
That's it! I've got to challenge the Beatles with the Heartbreakers.

48 hours are up on this one.
|
Edgy DC Mar 24 2006 01:27 PM |
I show Beatles, 77.5-42.5.
|
Edgy DC Mar 24 2006 01:29 PM |
Actually, no, the Stones list didn't go up until Thursday at 10, so, going by 48 weekday hours, this is still hot until Monday at 10.

Good matchup. I'm going to sink my teeth into this over the weekend, I think.
