Othe big news:

Luca Gavelli tops European ranking list

MECHELEN, March 11, 2006 - Luca Gavelli from Italy is the new number one on the European ranking list, after the results of the Open Austrian Mahjong Championship have been implied. Luca did not score very high in the Austrian championship at Feldkirchen (he was number 17), but his result of the European Championship, last summer in the Netherlands, weighs heavily. At the OEMC, he ended on the 6th position. The old number 1, Jan Thomassetti from Belgium, scored quite poor at Feldkirchen (29) and now is on position number 8 on the EMA-ranking.

Player number 2 on the ranking list is Benoît Messi Fouda from France, number 3 is Anita Neve from the Netherlands. Thanks to their massive presence at the OEMC, the Dutch outnumber the other European players on the list.

The next tournament with a MERS-qualification (which counts for the EMA list) is the Open Danish Championship, April 29 in Copenhagen. We will probably then see the entrance of Sune Korreman from Denmark on the list. Sunne was the best European player at the OEMC with his 5th position, but has not participated in other MERS tournaments since. To be included in the list, one must have participated in at least two European tournaments.

While we're at it, I have to wonder if there's any news about Beth Adams' udders.

Beth Adams is the name of the morning show person at the radio station where I used to work. She was very nice, but I really don't care about her udders.

Goat wisdom from Beth Adams:

If you are an "old hand" at raising goats for pets or show you know how wonderful the world of goats is. If you are new to this world, hang on….. Goats are, without a doubt, the smartest animals you can possibly grace your life with. If you can imagine a three year old child that has a knack for getting into everything, is exceptionally inquisitive, adept, graceful, and let’s not forget stubborn, then you can imagine what having one or more goats in your life is like. But the reward is their endless love and loyalty to you. There is not any other sight more awe inspiring than a group of baby goats with a group of children. Put them together and you will be filled with wonder.

Raising goats is very hard work. You can expect to milk your does twice a day, faithfully. You will be bottle or lamb bar feeding kids, trimming hooves, feeding twice a day, and every single goat will need an extra pat of attention. You can forget about family vacations unless you are lucky enough to have someone you can trust to care for them while you are gone. Four years ago we went on a three day vacation for the first time in several years and were a nervous wreck until we got back. And, as Murphy’s Law would have it, one of our original goats, Java, had gotten frightened, jumped off the stanchion and hit her udder. You guessed it, mastitis. So…. Looks like we’ll be taking separate vacations for years to come.

Between the birthing season, milking season, show season, and breeding season you should be able to sleep during the months of December and January. But it will be another ten months of excitement you will not want to change for anything. Although four years one of our goats, Cloud, locked me in the barn. After 45 minutes Paul and Jason saw me climbing out of a window without my snow suit on (couldn't fit throught the window with it on), head first at that. We changed the lock on the barn! We have come out to the water faucet running, gates unlocked, and wonder of wonders, shame on you if your goats get into your milking palor.... imagine eight linebackers from any NFL football team "partying" until the wee hours of the morning. Why, two years ago, we were welcomed by Telly Tubbie (Telluride who was immensely pregnant with triplets) running around the barn with an empty bucket on her head, she had somehow accomplished this when we went to get the hoof trimmers from the house. They are soooooooo quick!

Every day is filled with small frustrations but fantastic surprises. Your life will never be the same after letting these things called "goats" enter your world…. and …… you will become addicted to them.

-Beth Adams

Poulsbo man wins salmon derby
Posted on Wednesday 01 March @ 10:41:12

Todd Quisenberry, of Poulsbo, was the big fish winner last week as his catch of 19.15 pounds earned him the grand prize at the 2006 Discovery Bay Salmon Derby in Gardiner.

Held Feb. 18-20, the derby saw fishers from Sequim, Gardiner, Port Townsend and beyond compete for more than $10,000 in prizes.
Quisenberry caught the top prize on Feb. 19 at 9:59 a.m. He earned a $3,000 check grand prize, as well as a $250 bonus for Sunday's biggest catch from Chinook Landscape.
Gary Randall, of Federal Way, took second place with his 19.1-pound catch, also taken on Sunday. He won $1,500.
Third went to Dick Olsen, of Fox Island, with 18.13 pounds. He won the $750 prize for third, plus a $250 prize for Monday's big catch from Shine Quarry.
Locals who placed well included John Jacobi, of Port Angeles, who finished sixth with a 14.05-pound catch. He won Saturday's big catch award, a $250 check sponsored by Maggie Baby.
Tenth place went to Port Townsend's Michael Gordon with 11.14 pounds. Fellow Port Townsend resident Don Dybeck was 13th overall at 10.13 pounds. Shane Hagar was Sequim's top finisher at 14th with 10.12 pounds, earning him $100 in cash.
Chris Young of Sequim was 34th at 7.12 pounds. Sequim's Alika Allencastre was 35th at 7.11 pounds and Jason Doig, also of Sequim, was 36th with 7.09 pounds. Young, Allencastre and Doig each earned a $50 gift certificate from Boater's World.
Bob Pier of Sequim was 56th with a 5.02-pound catch.
The derby, one organizers claim is the oldest running salmon derby in Washington, supports Gardiner firefighters.

WWE POWER 25
3/18/2006

1
JOHN CENA
The FU felt round the world is still reverberating through WWE... Saturday Night's Main Event could be pivotal... The Champ needs to keep one eye on his opponent and the other on this partner.

2
KURT ANGLE
With one win under their belts, can Angle and his WrestleMania opponents successfully team up once again at Saturday Night's Main Event?

3
RANDY ORTON
Orton's impact is being felt on both brands... It appears the youngest champion in WWE history has retuned to form... Orton may be the favorite to win at WrestleMania.

4
CHRIS BENOIT
The Rabid Wolverine forced Orlando Jordan to tap out yet again this week on SmackDown... Can he do the same to the Wrestling God at WrestleMania?

5
TRIPLE H
Nobody plays the game better than The Game himself... Despite loss in a tag match on Monday, you have to believe the Cerebral Assasin has a master plan on the road to WrestleMania.

6
REY MYSTERIO
Rey is the sentimental favorite heading into WrestleMania, but first he must co-exist with his opponents at Saturday Night's Main Event.

7
EDGE
Superior talent, fine film maker and the best damn talk show on TV makes Edge an A-lister on anyone's guest list... But will being dragged into Mick Foley's hardcore gutter be career suicide or another Edge epic?

8
BIG SHOW
Never make a giant angry... Show's still fuming over the FU... He could be more dangerous now than ever.

9
KANE
The Big Red Machine is one of the most consistent Top 10 Superstars ever... He's heating up at the right time - WrestleMania season.

10
ROB VAN DAM
RVD was caught in the middle of the Flair-Benjamin war... Gotta believe Monday night's loss was just an aberration for Mr. Monday Night.

11
UNDERTAKER
The Deadman is undefeated at WrestleMania... Will his streak end with 13 wins?

12
SHELTON BENJAMIN
A win is a win, tainted or otherwise... Benjamin is still the Intercontinental Champion. Big Momma must be very proud.

13
CHRIS MASTERS
Masters gets dragged down by another tag team fiasco... The Masterpiece does his best work alone.

14
MARK HENRY
The World's Strongest Man has become SmackDown's unofficial wrecking ball... But can brute force overcome the Phenom?

15
SHAWN MICHAELS
It IS better to be pissed off than pissed on... Could HBK be anymore pissed off going into his match with Shane? The Academy believes this one will tear down the house at Saturday Night's Main Event.

16
RIC FLAIR
He's been money in the bank for his entire career... Does the Nature Boy have one last title run in him?

17
MNM
I wonder if MNM would still be as good as they are if it wasn't for Melina.

18
LASHLEY
Loss to Finlay may prove to be a valuable lesson... Lord have mercy on Lashley's next opponent.

19
FINLAY
No one beats an Irishman wielding a shillelagh on St. Patrick's Day, especially if he's a crafty veteran who likes to fight.

20
CARLITO
Perhaps the most volatile Superstar on the P25... Carlito remains an enigma.

21
THE BOOGEYMAN
Will scaring the crap out of your opponent give you an advantage... probably. Boogey has scared Booker right out of the POWER 25... Will he ever be heard from again?

22
JBL
May have bitten off more than he can chew... or drink for that matter. Will the Wrestling God out drink the beer-bashing Rattlesnake or will he just be begging for the ring to stop spinning?

23
SHANE McMAHON
Shane-O-Mac flaunts the fact that he's playing with a stacked deck, and there's nothing anyone can do about it. It may not be pretty on Saturday, but it will sure as hell be memorable.

24
PAUL BURCHILL
SmackDown's swashbuckler swings into the P25 for the first time.

25
SPIRIT SQUAD
The most annoying entry into the P25 ever... Individually, who doesn't want to shove Nicky or Micky's pom poms straight up their megaphones... But as a team, how can anyone beat the Squad ?

The WWE has finally seen the light and has stopped charging for its fantasy wrestling service. http://www.wwe.com/play/fantasy/ Yes, that's right, a Pro Wrestling Fantasy league. I've set up a private league if anyone's interested. The league name is "Too Many Doinks" password: doink. The season starts May 22 and runs until SummerSlam.
