Rock Star: Supernova

Remember Rock Star: INXS last summer? Well, Dave Navarro and the gorgeous Brooke Burke are back at it again, this time with an "all-star" band looking for a singer. The band:

Tommy Lee (drums) - Best known as the drummer from Motley Crue, Tommy Lee has (tried to) become a brand in his own right, with a reality-TV show ("Tommy Lee Goes To College") and solo album ("Tommyland").

Jason Newsted (bass) - Former bassist for Metallica, who got out just at the right time to rejoin his old Voivod bandmates.

Gilby Clarke (guitar) - Best known from his three-year tenure Guns N Roses rhythm guitarist (during the "Use Your Illusion" period), Gilby also got out at just the right time. Released a damn good solo album ("Pawn Shop Guitars") in 1994, but hasn't done much of note since.

The band will be called Supernova; Butch Walker (above) will produce their album, expected to be released by early 2007. Butch is probably better known now as a producer than as a performer, having twiddled the knobs for Bowling for Soup, Pink, Lindsay Lohan, Avril Lavigne, Lit, Sevendust, The Donnas, American Hi-Fi, and SR-71; but he has had a solid performing career as well, with three albums from the Marvelous 3 and two top-notch solo discs, as well as a live DVD. All of the Marv 3 discs are strongly recommended; it's a crime these guys didn't get more play.

I am officially excited. Wish I'd auditioned.

Sounds pretty un rock n' roll to me.

I actually watched RS last summer... only it became clear after 3 episodes that there were so many unacceptable candidates, and only 2 or 3 possible winners, that the whole show was sort of... stupid.

It seemed to have reawakened INXS, so I suppose it was a success, even though I don;t care much for "It Ain't Pretty"

Impressive.

Oh wait, that said 'twiddled the knobs FOR, not OF.
Sorry, nevermind.
