IGT 9/19/2017: NYM@MIA -- Let's Groove Tonight

G-Fafif
Sep 19 2017 07:55 PM

Hey, the Mets are playing a baseball game on this date in 2017.

The sizzling Nori Aoki leads off and plays right.
The hot-hitting veteran Jose Reyes fills in again at short, batting second.
The third-place hitter is third baseman Asdrubal Cabrera, swinging a scorching bat himself.
Dominic Smith is at first and in the cleanup slot, really showing the power the Mets were hoping for.
Travis d'Arnaud catches, bats fifth and looks to continue his incremental progress.
Brandon Nimmo continues to flash the leather in left; he'll bat sixth.
Gold Glove defender Juan Lagares is stationed in center, batting seventh.
Versatile Phil Evans makes his major league debut at second, batting eighth.
And pitching and batting ninth, one of the keys to the Mets' 2016 playoff drive, Seth Lugo.

Cripes, I almost believe that's a real team.

The Marlins starting pitcher requires his own post so as to fit his entire name in.

Going for Miami will be Odrisamer Despaigne. He has an earned run average of 4.35 and a word score of phenomenal.

Meaning he's not hurt?
D'oh, who said that?

Yikes! I have trouble with a name like "Scott Boras." How am I going to handle "Odrisamer Despaigne"?

More evidence that you are carrying on in the tradition of Ralph.

No Rosario again because the young man is "violently sick," according to his manager (and tweeted by DiComo). "It's more than the flu." Out for Wednesday afternoon's game, too, probably.

Re: IGT 9/19/2017: NYM@MIA -- Let's Groove Tonight

That will make it two streaks of multiple games missed for Rosario -- five games earlier with the finger and now three games (at least) here with his tummy assuming he misses tomorrow -- and he just
got here!! Plus he's only like 12 years old and hasn't been trained by Bawris so we can't blame any of the usual suspects of old age or abuse.

Also, now just 6.0 games ahead of Philly for last place as they were beating Kershaw last night (4-3 on an Aaron Altherr GS) while we were doing diddley off of Dan Straily who had given up around 50 or
60 runs over his last half-dozen starts. Season ends with three in Philly - so who says there's nothing left to play for!

Fishy lineup:

Ichiro LF
Giancarlo RF
Christian CF
Justin 1B
J.T. C
Derek 2B
Brian 3B
Mike SS
Odrisamer P

Well, if Suzuki gets to go by his first name...

I salute the positivism in this post!

This is in the grand tradition of Casey and Greg Goossen, "Now, that fellow over there, he's 20, too. In ten years he has a chance to be 30."

I hope the pitchers keep grooving to the minimum.
OTOH, the Marlins' pitchers can groove all they want.
I was at work when I got to this thread, and EWF's Let's Groove was playing on the speakers.

Hence the plethora of pop-ups this season (although not this evening).

The other thing about later career Jose is that his walk rate now (slightly) exceeds ML averages.
The odd part is that his OBA remains low because his BA has dropped so far.

I thought Aoki's double-flap helmet was only going to be for a day or two, but here he is weeks later, and he's still rockin' it.

He's not even a switch hitter.

It was Junichi Tazawa but, yeah, that's part of it.
If the pitch clock ever becomes realized it's going to have a major impact on the Asian pitchers. I can't think of one of them that isn't deadly slow.
Then combine Asian with reliever and it's like you're moving backwards.

Bour's HR just creeps over the wall, Cabrera's (w/one on) falls just short.
Lagares's liner (w/bases loaded) goes right at the 2B-man, Ichiro's just sneaks over Reyes's glove.

Change up those few ABs and not only do the Mets win but it's a borderline laugher.

Seems these days the Mets play two kinds of games:

1) They score a couple of runs early, there's a decent enough starting performance and the bullpen either makes it close late or blows it.

2) They don't score early and they gradually fall further and further behind as the game progresses.

Well, they've played both kinds of games so far this series. It's one thing to be bad, it's another to be PREDICTABLY bad.
