Ottoneu 2018

Everyone's still in right?

Anyone want to be first alternate for someone that may or may not come back?

I was able to add a site password which should prevent people from randomly grabbing accidentally abandoned teams. the password for the league is 'ed'.

i have a friend who might be interested in taking on a team, if need be. he's a mets fan.

although, given the history of the league, maybe y'all shouldn't let me bring anyone else in, so as the rest of y'all might have a chance of winning! ;)

Re: Ottoneu 2018

if i may continue a thought from the 2017 thread...

instead of divisions, and if we did put some small meager cash money on the table, we could always award a smaller prize for the second-half winner. tally the stats at the all star break, reset the totals to zero, and see who does best from then on. that might be enough to keep people's interest.

alternatively, and i'd mentioned this in the message board, we could try to run an off-line head to head mirror league, where we sum up every team's weekly stats and match 'em up against that week's designated opponent. it'd take a fair bit of work to pull off, but would offer some distinction and maybe a reason for lower-tier teams to play.

altogether though, i was in 7th place at the end of june, and going into the last month, i honestly felt like if things broke just right, i might be able to make a run at the lead. and was really hoping to at least take second. and the devil toads climbed from 35 points to 60, and were within spitting distance of a few more points, too. and poor muddy chickens, looked like he was going to run away with the damned thing early in the season, and he dropped to 8th (and will plummet to 9th once his pitching stats get expunged). so the season is really up for grabs even late.

i guess the bigger issue might be how do we get the bottom of the league to get into the game, and keep trying to run out the best lineups and build the best rosters, but theoretically, the dynastic nature of our league should make that happen. those teams should be shedding salary and building future depth.

Re: Ottoneu 2018

My team was all over the place this year, and I made bad lineup decisions because I wasn't on top of it every day. I left a ton of points on the table that could have put me into second place.

I'm back in for next year, and I don't want to make a massive financial investment, but a fun $20 buy-in or something is doable.

yeah. I don't want to get too heavily financially into fantasy. I'm already in Fman's league for like $100 or something.

but I was thinking like $20, or even 10.

at $20 we could do $120 to the winner and like $40 to the second half winner or like $5 for each category win.

I'm updating Ottoneu. league password is 'welcome abordick' which should help keep rando's from claiming teams that we lose and don't notice, etc.

new features and the like. playoffs, head to head?

[url]http://community.ottoneu.com/t/head-to-head-scoring-coming-to-ottoneu-fantasy-baseball-in-2018/2669

this will be messy as it's new features, new coding. but we gotta do it. it makes it more competitive. I'm going to turn playoffs on unless there's overwhelming angst about it. We can vote on switching to head to head/divisions and the playoff format. The playoff format will always be head to head though, just an fyi.

I'm gonna make two threads for voting. one for head to head versus current, one for playoff options.

Okay. see if he actually wants to play and we'll get him in. We'll give him a short grace period to cut whoever he wants from the roster to get ready for the draft.

what was your fangraphs/ottoneu id?

main one is you have to be available (or find a proxy to be available) next Wednesday at 9 for the auction draft. Otherwise it's Otto roto. categories listed on the team pages, your prospective roster.

[url]https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/209/team?team=1886

the current argument is a few people seem adamantly against playoffs because of a slightly different format for determining the winner. No one's vehemently come out in favor of playoffs (though I'm sure they will the second I cave and nix the playoffs) Currently winner is crowned at the end of the season based on the roto categories. proposal would be a head to head format over the last 4 weeks of the season which uses a more counting based statistic grouping (doubles, SB, HR etc) rather than the rate based ones we use now.

your team is your team. keepers are already set. you keep everyone. It'll suck to miss the draft though. At the very least you should see if you can find someone that just wants to draft for you, at least just for a few guys to round out the roster. otherwise you'll have a week to play with the waiver wire and add guys. You're coming in with a real solid team though.

Re: Ottoneu 2018

The new Easton Assassins ownership has reached out to the owners of the park in Guadalajara, Mexico (where the Cornballers used to call home) to check on the park's availability for the upcoming season. Usage of the Cornballerâ„¢ machine in the concession area during our inaugural season sadly resulted in numerous injuries to staff and patrons alike, so the Guadalajara tenants have refused all attempts to renew our partnership, citing "current and pending litigation," whatever that implies.

As such, we have contacted a number of municipalities in the US, Canada and Mexico and have found one eager taker: the city of Pawnee, Indiana. There is a small park on the border of Pawnee and the neighboring town of Eagleton that Mayor Knope has invited our club to use for free, on one condition. We must pay tribute to the storied history of Pawnee and their native ancestors by adorning our uniforms with the name and colors of their legacy mascot, the Pawnee Drunken Savages. We have happily accepted!

We'll see you on the field soon, Pawneeans!

in terms of runs scored and slugging, i'm farther away from 11th place than the 11th place team is from 4th place! obp is better, in that the same gap only puts 11th place into 8th, and for homers only 9th.

so i might have a chance at eventually getting some points in those two categories....

my pitching seems to have gotten better, too, after a few unnecessary bumps, with about the third best squad.

[checks chris davis' stats]

holy shit dude. he's so bad he wouldn't even help my shithole of a lineup.

i, too, did not save during the draft, and am wondering what the hell i managed to spend my money on.

Re: Ottoneu 2018

My team has trouble with the longball - we don't hit enough, and we give up too many.

Which is weird, because I've got sluggers; they're just not slugging. Stanton is hitting them, sort of, but Kris Bryant and Josh Bell aren't.

Reminds me of this other team I root for.

So glad I had Matz AND Gray in my lineup for their starts this week. So much for my last-ditch run for the top.

You should trade for Kershaw

At a third of the salary, maybe. But not at that price. That reminds me, I forgot to return your message.

Make me an offer. I'm in 11th place, and I I have 3 GMs so if you reach the right guy maybe a deal can happen

Re: Ottoneu 2018

Congrats Rougned's Odor on the boat-race win! I think you moved into first a month or two ago and just kept steady pace. It was a spirited battle for the other 2 medal positions. Looks like a few more ABs/innings today to shore up 2nd and 3rd. Cool league, cool format. Thanks for letting me crash again this year.

Re: Ottoneu 2018

Is Rougned's Odor in the CPF? And who runs the Pawnee Drunken Savages?

Thanks to everybody involved (especially for letting me get Jeff McNeil for $3) and congrats to the winner. He took his lumps last year (grabbing an abandoned team, IIRC), but he took full advantage of all the unspent money he had coming into this season.

Hey, all I need is nineteen homers today from Bryant/Murphy/Kike Hernandez/Chris Taylor and I jump from eighth to seventh. #YaGottaBelieve

Re: Ottoneu 2018

Lots of stuff to talk about this offseason. fight about. argue about. whine about.

think the price is going up too.

I have to look it up but..

1. playoff format
2. Do we want to throw a couple more bucks in for a prize at the end?
3. possible change in regular format?
4. anybody leaving/coming?
5. when's the draft? Anyone got plans for mid march? I typically pick a tuesday or wednesday night at 9. Probably the 19th or 20th. But arguably we could do it waaaay earlier. It's not like a regular league where you want to know who's going to make the teams. knowing who's on the bubble is part of the auction/keeper structure.

Re: Ottoneu 2018

I'm hanging my ottoneu ownership hat up.

If anyone wants (or knows someone who wants) to take over my team, I'm happy to turn over the reigns before arbitration and cuts so that a new owner can do as they see fit with what I've got. Otherwise, I'll make those decisions as though I was carrying on, but I'd like to be out before next year's draft for sure.

Re: Ottoneu 2018

despite the fact that i was horrible in this season, (actually, i shat the bed in both my leagues this year), i prefer this format to any others. i actually thought i had a puncher's chance until the all star break came along and crushed my dreams with cold reality.

i need to find a way to get unspent money. my team is shit, and all overpaid, and yet i struggle to identify where i should clearly make cuts.

also, i believe in these guys. much like the mets, i think we turned it around a bit at the end, giving reasons for hope.

but, man. i need to look at my pre-season projections to see how badly it all was. yikes!

I'm running Pawnee like Leslie Knope.

Arbitration ends on Wednesday the 14th, so if you want to make your opponents pay more for their best players, now is the time to make that happen.

yeah, I may have forgotten. I've gotten really bad deadlines. But this has been on my list for a while.

my logic is basically "just throw money at guys you know they'll keep"

We do need I think two? new people btw.

I'm not clear how to actually throw around the money? This site is sadly not super intuitive.

Re: Ottoneu 2018

You're right, it's not. Click on the "Arbitration" link on the left side of the top nav, and then there's an "overview" drop down just under that. Click through each team in the drop down one by one, allocating $1-3 per team.

Looks like the three teams who haven't allocated are all non-CPFers.

Snukes/saltygary is out. Hopefully he does his arb but I'm not hopeful.

Transmonk says he's retired too, thankfully he did his arb.

so we need two owners.
