Cabrera's option picked up

I'm assuming now that he is slotted in at third as opposed to second.

Looking at the numbers, I think that he had basically the same year offensively in 2018 than he did in 2017 with the exception of the HR's going down. Do you think that setting in at the new position full time alleviates that? He made it known that he did not like all the moving around last year.

Re: Cabrera's option picked up

It's a pretty obvious choice. He's still a useful player.

What I find potentially more interesting news today is that Phillip Evans was signed to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training. He looked intriguing in his cup of coffee last year and I'm glad they home on to him.

Also picked up the option on Blevins.
I think we also assumed that one was more of a given than Cabrera but this makes it official.

Too many variables at this point -- Wilmer's status, Wright's health, TJ Rivera's recovery, Cecchini? Reynolds? -- to know what Cabrera's "regular" position will be or if he'll even have one.
The bigger question is whether this is the end of [crossout:ojuxzesq]Rico[/crossout:ojuxzesq] Reyes?

I do hope the clubhouse issues have been resolved.

Re: Cabrera's option picked up

That blew over almost immediately.
He wanted to play SS, a position which carries with it a sense of pride for a lot of players and often particularly so for Latin ones, and even though he's spent seasons at other positions before, he didn't
like being the guy who was moved despite his veteran status and coming off his good 2017 season.
But once Rosario came aboard he realizes that the club is committed in that direction unless and until young Amed fails miserably so it's either this or go looking for a job elsewhere where most teams
will also have younger and prettier SS mistresses.

Re: Cabrera's option picked up

He didn't like being moved because the team hadn't picked up his option. He had offered to move earlier in the season in exchange for his option being picked up.

The Mets didn't jump at this offer because, among other reasons, it's not a player's place to use his positioning as a bargain chip. But once they declined, and then decided to move him anyhow, he took that as a betrayal of what he saw as an implicit understanding that, because they refused his offer, he wouldn't have to move.

He felt slighted. Understandable, but wrong. He moved, he played more or less effectively, and his option got picked up anyhow. Seems like his little hissy is now a moot point. I can't imagine too much ill will is festering between him and his teammates.
