Mets not committed to Rosario?

"The way it stands for the Mets, Rosario and Smith are only penciled in as the team's starting shortstop and first baseman next season. Their names are not in ink.

The Mets will deny it in public, but I'm convinced in talking to people around the league that the Mets are 100 percent willing to discuss both players in trade, especially Smith, and are not necessarily committed to starting them next season."

Regarding Rosario, I'll believe it when I see it, and maybe not even after I see it. The only way I see them trading him is if it's Correa or Lindor coming back, and I really do not see them not playing him if they still have him.

Re: Mets not committed to Rosario?

All player contracts are assets in the same sense.

I don't think he'll be traded, but if one guy is tradable, I don't see why another guy shouldn't be.

As for not believing it even after you've seen it, the Mets have dealt their not-yet-fully-ripened top or near-top prospect plenty of times before: Carlos Gomez, Scott Kazmir, Preston Wilson, and Eddie Williams come to mind.

That Kazmir trade ruined my enjoyment of the one and only time I caught a game at the Metrodome. I had a friend who was living out there at the time and we were about to catch a Twins/Sawx matchup when the news came over ESPN while we were pregaming at a nearby bar.

'cause, ya know all teams aren't 100% willing to discuss stuff like this.
The Mets will deny this part is even funnier.

Trading these guys would be stupid as all hell.

without knowing who is coming back that is hard to say. I'd be disinclined to trade either. Less so Rosario given the ease of finding a 1B type who can slug with Wilpon's dollars

I'd be very surprised if they traded Rosario. otoh if they did we'd probably be getting something very good in return.
