Weinstein

... sexually harassed women may be “asking for it” by dressing seductively.
“You look at everything all over the world today and how women are dressing and what they are asking by just presenting themselves the way they do.
What are they asking for? Trouble,”
“To see it here in our own country is very difficult, but I also think how do we display ourselves? How do we present ourselves as women? What are we asking?
Are we asking for it by presenting all the sensuality and all the sexuality?”

Fashion designer Donna Karan ladies and gentlemen, coming to the defense of Weinstein in an interview with the 'Daily Mail'

Re: Weinstein

Woody Allen and Roman Polanski can get dozens of actors and actresses to defend them, and the best he can do is Donna Karan?

He's in trouble.

The "Casting Couch" has been going on in Hollywood and on Broadway for decades.
But he could be its poster boy.
What a slime ball.

Well sure, but now we have women playing the 'they asked for it' card?!?!? Even as there's zero evidence, at least in the stories that have become public, that these women did anything other
than owning a set of tits to "provoke" this pig.

Oh and speaking of Polanski, it seems that there are investigations going on of other under-age girls he may have raped.
And this after Johnny Depp himself assured me that there's no hint of a pattern with him.

Re: Weinstein

Karan now claims her comments were ... wait for it ... taken out of context and don’t represent her feelings.
What she actually believes (though it may have been unclear based on her prior statements) is that “sexual harassment is NOT acceptable and this is an issue that MUST be addressed once and
for all regardless of the individual.”
Oh yeah, and she's also “truly sorry to anyone that I offended and everyone that has ever been a victim.”

Glad we got all that cleared up.

Re: Weinstein

Someone should ask if she is sorry or if the person who wrote that boilerplate apology statement for her is the only one who is sorry.

I never understood why Polanski has any defenders, he ahould have been imprisoned or castrated years ago.

All pigs.

But the child molestors? Special place in hell for them.

And if Hollywood wants to be taken seriously, they should be just as vocal when it's one of their own.

He has money and influence.

And I'm sure his behavior, as abhorrent as it may be to you and me, is hardly alien to the experiences of most successful Hollywood actors, directors, and producers. Bryan Singer is still a free man, and doesn't even have to live in exile.

This one has wheels , he's going down. Anthony Bourdain( I'm tired of his act too) seems to have taken up the battle on Twitter with vengeance , calling out celebs left and right.

I cannot understand why any woman would do a Woody Allen movie. But they fight for the opportunity to do so.

People do far fouler things for fame than work with Woody Allen.

It's a drug and a great tool in the belt of the coercive exploiter.

Re: Weinstein

But really, child molestation.

I guess this shouldn't surprise me. Roman Polanski is revered by some. Most people have no problem with Woody Allen. Michael Jackson's music is still popular.

When viewed in this context, it should be no surprise that we elected a sexual predator as president.

Weinstein, not surprisingly, was one of those who spoke out in favor of Polanski a few years back referring to his "so-called crime".

Re: Weinstein

The real problem isn't Weinstein. It's the go-along, get-along culture that enabled him to carry on with his predations, hand in glove with the fact that the only reason that people are speaking out now en masse is that he isn't multiple-Best-Picture-nominees powerful anymore. Also, there's blood in the water.

One of many things with Weinstein was not just his supposed power, but that he supported the correct side of the aisle. The hypocrisy that is flying out of Hollywood now would be funny if it didn't damage and destroy so many people.

Well played.

This is an important point to make. I think Democrats are now realizing how wrong it was to sweep all of those allegations under the rug.

"I don't get why Republicans are all worked up. Other than the occasional rape and sexual harassment allegations, he's a very good guy." Hopefully we never hear something like this again.

Maybe someday we will look back at this and see that it took Trump, and Weinstein, and Cosby for America to wake up and collectively realize that we can't treat our women in this way.

Weinstein and Cosby, anyway. Trump doesn't seem to be suffering any consequences.

One of the quotes often tossed around by Clinton-ites back in the day to questions about Bill's reported improprieties and just his all-around weasel-ness was "character doesn't matter".
And that was what they used in his defense!

Not that I think, given the chance, they'd do a single thing differently anymore than Trumpians are going to decide that his flaws trump his "ability" to MAGA.
It's the old saying about how 'He may be a louse but he's OUR louse'. And remember, it's always the other college football team that's corrupt, never yours.

Re: Weinstein

I have to say, I have HEWJ problem with the number of articles listing the women making the charges, and their specific charge, with a photo of the actress or production assistant or whoever next to the "documented charge." The subtext of the juxtaposition is, "Take a look at her in this here picture—was she worth it?"
