I had a Larry David Moment Today

You know, the kind of weird thing that only seems to happen to him, and us.

The Halogen bulb in my desk lamp burned out this morning. I decided to pick one up on my way to work. I found it in my local Stop and Shop, then went to pay and saw that checkout lines with cashiers were long. So I went to one of those scan-it-yourself checkout lanes.

I scanned it and put it on the conveyor belt. There was an automated voice saying "Please place your item on the belt" and the signal light went off. I tried it again, same result. The item weighs so little that it apparently didn't register. The person behind me told me to scan it again and to put my keys or wallet on the belt. Still no go. By this time, the assistant showed up and explained that each item has a weight associated with its bar code and my wallet was too heavy. She had to cancel the transaction, swipe her card and enter some special code. It worked.
Of course, this ended up taking more time than it would have if I had stood on one of the long lines.

We all have things like this happen to us. And this thread should be the place where we can all laugh at ourselves.
Please share.

Not nearly as dramatic but I just looked at the kitchen clock and freaked because I thought it was 1:30. I hadn't changed it yet
