Try a Little Tenderness

That crazy New York Post is citing an organization source and reporting that embattled New York phormer phenom starting pitchers Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler will be tendered 2018 contracts.

Fellow arbitration-eligible teammates AJ Ramos, Jeurys Familia, Wilmer Flores, Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard and Hansel Robles will also be offered contracts. No further word on a deGrom extension, but it's apparently not off the table.

Why would you not expect Wheeler to be tendered?

Harvey was certainly a non-tender candidate, but at the end of the day the talent might still be in there somewhere, so you might as well bring him back, since its just one year - if he is successful trade his ass at the deadline!

I don't think he meant one wouldn't expect it, I think he was just being
colorful or something. I wonder what Harv's up to these days; I could see
him showing up in camp in the best shape of his life and I could also see him
showing up two belt holes fatter with another chin or two.

I'm not sure which one would actually be better for him though. There's probably an argument for some girth and an offseason of rest for the arm. My amateurish analysis suspects he needed a bit of a reboot in terms of command/delivery/approach. I'd actually bet high on Harvey and the new pitching coach, because the 'stuff' of his pitches still seemed to be good.

I thought we were commemorating the upcoming 50th anniversary of Otis Redding's death.

It best to tender Harvey. It looks like his problem is bad mechanics, something he can work on over the winter. It may be due to the thoracic outlet syndrome, but he did have good mechanics in a couple of games (where he pitched well). It's worth a gamble if he can fix them.

Funny you should ask... Harvey's offseason regimen.

Matt Harvey is back in the dating game — after his romantic disaster earlier this year with Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima. Sources tell Page Six that Mets hurler Harvey has been getting close with a blond bombshell named Kristina Krishka.

“Instagram model” and cocktail waitress Krishka describes herself in her bio on the social-media site with just “Travel, Hospitality, Fitness,  Ukrainian, Polish, Made in the USA.”

Harvey is totally listed as an asset in an Eastern European intelligence dossier somewhere.

Our 2017 played out much the way that Otis' 1967 did, sadly on all accounts.

I still can't believe all he accomplished by the age of 26. Wonder what he could've done if he had another 50+ years?

Ok, I've hijacked this thread long enough.

White Sox: ... RHP Al Alburquerque,

Famous in the NY area because Mike Francessa once berated a caller who wanted to talk about the pitcher, and Moron Mike thought he was being punked and told the caller there was no such person.

Re: Try a Little Tenderness

The better Rondon (i.e. Hector, of the Cubs) was also non-tendered. Hughes is more of of a ROOGY than a workhorse, but he has more value than the Brewers gave him credit for; he's generally been very good at keeping the ball in the yard, and that should be at a premium now. It was already a buyers market for righty relievers (which is good for the Mets), and now it's even more of one.

The real kicker to that story wasn't just that MF questioned the existence of Alburquerque to begin with but that he later claimed to know all about him only he knew him as Albert Alburquerque so
the caller referring to him as 'Al' was the part that threw him.

Only Francesa can be loud wrong twice all while insisting he was right all along.

Drew Smyly intrigues me, if he will sign a multi-year deal on the cheap to rehab with us now and help next year.

A little more complete list ...

[list]Arizona Diamondbacks: LHP T.J. McFarland, and RHP J.J. Hoover (what a bunch of cheapos)

Atlanta Bravess: 1B (and sometime OF) Matt Adams, IF Jace Peterson, OF Danny Santana

Chicago Cubs: rhp Héctor Rondon, c Taylor Davis

Chicago White Sox: RHP Jake Petricka and his seven ERA, RHP Zach Putnam, and RHP Al Alburquerque, plus IF Alan Hanson.

Cincinnati Reds: LHP Kyle Crockett

Detroit Tigers: RHP Bruce Rondon ... another hmmm ...

Houston Astros: RHP Mike Fiers

Kansas City Royals OF post-season specialist Terrance Gore

Milwaukee Brewers: RHP Jared Hughes ... hmmm...

San Francisco Giants: RHP Albert Suarez

Seattle Mariners: LHP and TJ rehabber Drew Smyly and RHP Shae Simmons

Tampa Bay Rays: LHP Xavier Cedeno

Texas Rangers: RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez, goofy RHP A.J. Griffin, RHP Nick Martinez, AND IF Hanser Alberto.

Toronto Blue Jays: RHP and Stowny Bruhk Seewulf Tom Koehler and IF Ryan Goins[/list:u]

So, not sure what the Braves are thinking setting Matt Adams afloat, but maybe he can give the Mets something like what Adam Lind offers, with even less of a commitment from the team.

That is one of the best Francesa skits of all time. COMEDY GOLD.

Sandy should really throw a minor-league deal with an ST invite at Tom Koehler. :)

Re: Try a Little Tenderness

So, seriously, would you rather spend $2.5 million on Matt Adams than $6.5 million on Adam Lind?

I'm guessing at those numbers, but it's worth considering if that difference can go to work for you somewhere else. Adams did so well for a while last year that the Braves were forced to move Freddie Freeman over to third. They reportedly were working hard to trade Adams before non-tendering him. But I bet nobody wants to deal with the Braves right now.
