Apologies for introducing the hot dog topic in the sandwich thread. Actually, there's a whole debate about whether a hog dog is a sandwich. I say no!

This recipe, followed to the letter, produces a fine Sabrett's Onion Sauce knockoff.

No biggie. I think there's another thread where we go into hot dog
brands which I'll look for next when I get a chance.

Re: Hot Dogs (revisited)

I will horrify the purists, but my ideal hot dog is on a King's Hawaiian hot dog bun, with a thin slice of cheese. The hot dog goes on top of the cheese, melting it, and equal amounts of honey mustard and ketchup are finally topped with Heinz Sweet Green relish.

No sauerkraut touches my hot dogs.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I'm on Team Sauerkraut.

Traveling in Connecticut for work has opened up a trove of fantastic hot dogs.

Super Duper Weenie, right off I-95 in Fairfield, and Blackie's, right off I-84 in Cheshire, are the two best. Blackie's hot relish is out of this world, and almost worth buying the overpriced jars of the stuff they sell. SDW makes Chicago dogs and Cincinnati dogs, which include that cinnamon-spiced Skyline-style chili. (They also offer regular chili.)

SDW is the best. If you're in the Bridgeport/Trumbull area, try Merritt Canteen, their dogs are good, too.

The funny thing is that I've changed a little from that thread, While I still prefer brown spicy mustard, I'll go with the yellow mustard if I'm going with relish

We go by Guida's a half dozen times a year or so and always stop for
giant chilli dogs.

I've eaten there - it's just up the road from Palmer Field, where CIAC holds the state baseball championships.

hot dogs don't last 5 minutes on my kids' plates, unless the ketchup runs low...

If we have time to stay off of CT 84 or 95, I have a couple of ways we cross most of
Connecticut using all state roads, etc. Guida's is on the way to Middletown for us which
is where we cross The Connecticut River.

I've met Guida, gonna say she was really Guida ll but didn't ask.

Re: Hot Dogs (revisited)

ye gods, is that a hot dog dance supercut???

is now an appropriate time to share how utterly unnerving it is that mickey's ears (and minnie's, too) move independently of his head to maintain the mickey mouse profile, no matter which way his head turns? also, the distance between the ears is variable (you can see it when minnie dances) and the ears even detach from mickey's head to maintain the profile around whatever hat he may choose to wear.

OH MY GOD, and i just noticed that as minnie walks away, her LEFT ear spins AROUND her head from when she was facing the viewer to become the RIGHT G--DAMN ear as she walks away! GAH, just when i thought mickey mouse clubhouse was done torturing me with its unending horrors!

if you need me, i'm just going to be whimpering in a ball under my desk for the next few hours or so.

Re: Hot Dogs (revisited)

Ooooh. Mm and I both caught in Mickey Mouse Clubhouse hell. Yes I Have noticed that about their ears!

Although I do kinda enjoy it. Also have you ever noticed that when they're in outer space, their helmets have ear shapes?
I once commented to my daughter that Daisy and Minnie are going to have bad knees by the time they are 30 walking around like that. She told me I was thinking too hard about it. Imagine that.

I don't know, buttermilk and deep fried hot dogs sounds a little scary.
Do love me a good birch beer though.

Re: Hot Dogs (revisited)

i'd noticed the ear thing way back when minimm's initial wave of interest in the show had started to wane. it's been a near-constant presence in our house since µmmL&R came along, though of late they seem to have finally moved on. not off of it completely, mind you, but it's not their #1 go to. that honor belongs to team umizoomi, with which i find no such trauma-inducing visuals.

the minnie ear spinning thing in the hot dog dance is a brand new nightmare. thanks, guys.

That's Ho-Ho-Kus to you. (I can see it from my house)

We're on a Curious George kick, so temporary reprieve from Mickey.
