4-day weekend starts in T-35 mins...
Have a round dozen this year. Trying a new (to us) turkey farm and picking up a ~25 lb
fresh killed tomorrow morning. I make most of the meal, but some bring a few things
and desserts. I don't cook often for a group so I'm looking forward to it once again.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I took off Wednesday and Friday since daycare is closed friday and I don't anticipate being competently able to cook for 16+3 without Wednesday to prep.

Mine has begun to do so in recent years, but before they did, I'd always take that Friday as a personal day.

Working until Wednesay, then FOUR DAY WEEKEND.

Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday of the year. Four day weekend, no shopping necessary, no social pressure to sing annoying songs and pretend to be moved by them.

There are no debates about the "true meaning of Thanksgiving". It's right there in the name. It means you should be fucking grateful for what you have. So go throw a football with your family, eat until your stuffed, then pass out on the coach while watching football on TV.

Give me this holiday any day of the week.

It annoys me when Christmas starts creeping into November. Treading on Thanksgiving's turf. As if all of the store decorations and carols and movies aren't enough for it. Maybe it has a complex because it's always had to share the spotlight with New Year's? Not sure. Christmas is an asshole.

I wish some other holiday would try that with Christmas. Give it a taste of its own medicine. Maybe we can ask the leprechauns to start offering green eggnog mid-December. I'd be down with that.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday for the same reasons CF listed, plus a few others:

[list:1i4wz6jl]It somehow, amazingly, has avoided being commercialized to any significant degree.
Nobody ever made me go to church on Thanksgiving.

Valentines day candy typically reaches stores by like 12/20.

I enjoy Thanksgiving enough, but so many of the traditional foods are meh. Gimme Christmas and candy and lasagna over turkey and cranberries any day. Especially real American secular Christmas which is basically for me just celebrating friends and family with pretty lights and everyone being a little more lax and jovial.

Though it does cast a spectre. Thanksgiving you're already supposed to worry about christmas gifts. black friday has imposed it's will.

Though with a three year old it's hard not to be really excited about all the fun christmas stuff impending.

Took the three days off to make it a full week. Thanksgiving's at my brother-in-law's so no stress there. So I'm just chilling.

My new company just gave us Wednesday off in addition to Frioday and other than having to double up the bullshit today, that's pretty sweet.

All that and we're still waiting till Thursday to travel to VT for a Friday turkey day since Wifey Bucket has to work Wednesday and no way are we dealing w/ the traffic then anywhoo.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

I love both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Technically off on Friday, but always taking calls and email from media who need to fill papers and broadcasts. It's more of a work from home day.

We always watch the Macy's Parade, this year with the added bonus of our local high school band marching. Check it out, performing roughly at 11:45.

I like it when the extended family gathers at my house. Not everyone can travel over this year, but will have a relatively full house. I'm in charge of the turkey, and I use a sweet maple glaze recipe from Rachel Ray. I like to make my own stuffing, but the last several years we've used stuffing from Costco, which I do think is really good. I also make yams in a brown sugar and marshmallow topping. Jellied cranberry sauce, of course. My wife is in charge of green vegetables.

I can, and will happily, eat turkey sandwiches for the next week, with the stuffing and cranberry sauce!

I don't mind the extended Christmas season. I actually like it. I secretly start making new Christmas playlists for the iPod starting in October. I love, love, love Christmas music, and start looking for info about new releases in September. (Cheap Trick, Gwen Stefani and Sia are the biggest releases this year.)

We don't decorate until the second week of December, but I start peeking in the holiday sections of the stores as soon as they move the Halloween stuff out. One of the cool things about the job is that I travel all over the state, and look for ornaments year round for a tree I put up in the office with state-themed decorations.

Our church does a beautiful job with Christmas Eve services, and I get a little weepy with the carols. It's just an emotional thing for me.

Enjoy the holiday and time with your families. The kids grow so fast. Take stock of your blessings.

I've been too busy for years to watch the parade, still getting pushback on the 'tv in the kitchen' thing.

three degrees of separation, one of my friend's coworkers daughter also attends that school. He left today, but still got his LearnedLeague submission in.

That's so cool! My daughter was in the band and I was a "band Dad," helping move stuff on and off the field and chaperoning. Would have loved to have been a part of this!
