Nicasio was "irrovocably" waived last season by the Pirates who felt unable to trade him, post-deadline, by enemy clubs making waiver claims on him and offering little value in a trade. That allowed the lowliest team who claimed him to get him, the Phillies, who went ahead and traded him to St. Louis anyway, thereby blunting the Pirates' intentions.

Everyone's out to get the Pirates.

Free agent, righty, led the league in appearances last year, and excellent numbers all around (low whip, 10Ks/9 but it was his best year by far. He's 31. I sometimes conflate him with the guy who was a Marlins' starter, Justin Nicolino.

Most often wears No. 12 so expect a Rolex Showdown from Lagares.

Seems like he's been good, like, only last year. That's the kinda dude that dumps a 4 and a half ERA on you in year 1 of a slightly questionable 2-year deal. I keep lookin'.

Man, look at those through the order splits. 9.24 K/9 to 6.13 the second time through. Shouldn't have taken this long to make him a reliever.

This is the second guy I've looked up in two days that the Mets are 'interested in' that's a converted starter. Wonder if Sandy thinks that's an exploitable thing.

205 innings at 3.38 ERA as a reliever. 26.4 K%. 3.05 FIP. NL average ERA/FIP was 4.18/4.19 so he's..okay?

That's a good point. It's why I have a little pitter-patter in my heart for Jurickson Profar. There's hope in the secondary numbers that may not be shining in the primaries.
