Parliamo di Mike Napioli

Mike Napoli hit pretty crapoli in 2017, but that was an injury year, his L/R splits are good, he's worked with Callaway in the past, and he might be the righthanded insurance for Dominic Smith that all the kids want, and could probably be had on a one-year deal, or maybe one and an option.

A big downside is he doesn't really play anywhere besides first, but he used to be a catcher, and maybe can be an emergency third-stringer back there.

Can definitely drag the Mets into bearded age with the big shrub on his face and his WWF pattern baldness.

Stories praise him as a leader, but he strikes me as the growly kind.

impressive beard.

hasn't played catcher in 5 years and has never played 3B. I'd pass.

He does look like the kind of guy who would clobber you with a pie in the face.

Re: Parliamo di Mike Napioli

he's not even a one dimensional player... he's partly dimensional at best.
If they're not going to play Flores at 2b everyday, then he's a better option to platoon at 1b with Smith than Napoli is.

The best thing about this is, if they're even considering Napoli, it means they're not considering going with eight relievers.

Napoli would be expensive Dominic Smith insurance.

Adam Lind would be a better player at a cheaper choice if the Mets go that route.

Re: Parliamo di Mike Napioli

I would think this is a better plan than anything that includes Napoli:

Vs. Right:
1B: Smith
2B: Cabrera
SS: Rosario
3B: Flores

Vs. Left:
1B: Flores
2B: Cabrera
SS: Rosario
3B: Rivera

Re: Parliamo di Mike Napioli

I like it if T.J. is physically able. It would keep Cabrera planted at 2B.

Who knows?

Re: Parliamo di Mike Napioli

I support Flores as much anybody, but I think alternatives that don't count on him and Cabrera being 24-7 players are rich and rewarding things. But we'll see.

True, a Neil Walker type would be a good fit.

Is Jose Reyes totally out of the conversation?
