Seems like the guys I'm reading a lot about are guys we already had.

I don't know if Jay Bruce has any more of a place in 2018 as he did in 2017, unless we are counting him at first base, or bouncing between right and first.

Reed has a season as closer under his belt and you'd think he'd want closer money. But does he want to come back to be part of a closer-by-committee situation?

One of the reasons you get closers through trades is that there's no misundertstanding that their role is to pitch when asked to.

If Callaway is serious about moving away from the designated ninth-inning closer, he's already the manager of the year in my book.

If he bunts against the shift I'll name a child after him.

Second base and the pen are major needs and Reed and Walker are viable options. While I'd rather focus on the infield and pitching instead of the outfield, it's possible that an outfielder like Bruce will be the better value play. I certainly wouldn't dismiss any of them out of hand, and I'm beginning to think a reunion with Reed is likely.

I think I'd be ok with Reed too. His stuff does make a me a little nervous. Not really dominant stuff, so you wonder if he loses just the littlest edge, he could slide backward pretty quickly.

But we need reliable arms, and options are dwindling.

I still want Wade Davis. Really, the only difference maker out there.

Or if they wanted to bring in an established starter, I feel like Gsellman could be pretty effective out of the pen.

I have this hope that Mickey and Dave Eiland can rehabilitate Hansel Robles. That would be really helpful. I don't know how realistic a hope that is, but Mickey seems to think he can. (I can't help but remember Rick Peterson, Victor Zambrano, and "ten minutes.")

I believe in a year end interview Sandy said he pitched a higher payroll to Fred and Jeff for 2017 and the owners agreed.

When the season feel apart he felt obligated to get the owners some money back via the late year trades.

I would not be willing to assume those "savings" will be used for 2018 payroll.

I am guessing they believe they can fix Harvey for one and be creative with what they have.

I really do believe the Mets will have a pretty quiet off season with the FA names out there.

Good luck.
