Don't we have the best club? We sure do Kelly, it's the best club ever. We have very specific criteria. That's what makes us so awesome. We do have room for one more member though. We should give him a ring to see what he's been up to. What is our club? And who are we going to call?

Yikes. Sorry about the confusion. Since MLB retired 42 throughout baseball in 1997, several Mets have had the distinction of being the last player to wear 42 for a particular club. Mo heads up that list, having been the last to wear 42 for 3 different clubs. The Mets, Red Sox and Angels. Jose Lima was the last to wear 42 for the Astros and Tigers. Dennis Cook was the last Marlin to wear 42, Butch Huskey was the last Mariner, and Pedro Martinez (the left-handed one) was the last Padre to wear 42, having worn it from 1993-1994. The interaction with Pedro (45, RH) was just a dumb joke.

I'm not a great fool, so I can clearly eliminate uniform numbers as a common theme. But you must have known I was not a great fool; you would have counted on it, so I can clearly concentrate on uniform numbers.

Lots of veteran sluggers — Hall of Famers and All-Stars — but then there's Tony F. Phillips. Lots of lefty hitters, but then there's Ricky Henderson, who probably came to the plate batting righthanded more than anybody in history. Lots of guys who finished their careers as Mets pinch-hitters/part-timers, but then there's Delgado and Olerud and others who were nothing but fulltimers as Mets. Lots of guys who were Mets post-1980, but then there's Richie Ashburn. Lots of guys who came to the Mets from the American League, but Bobby Abreu and Carlos Delgado came from National League rivals. NO pitchers. And a whole lot of runs scored. At LEAST 10,000 runs. Probably close to 20,000.

That's a good club. I always think of Lee Mazzilli as a guy who had 100 walks in him, but he never quite scaled that mountain. Edgardo Alfonzo too peaked at 95. Granderson got as high as 91 with the Mets in 2015. I guest the best current candidate is Nimmo.

This is a tricky one. My first thought was a Blue Jays connection, but Fortunato doesn't seem to have one. Then I thought it was a "season missed due to injury" connection, but Alomar/Benitez didn't do that. Then I thought it had something to do with trades, but Macdonald wasn't traded at any point. But the "hint" makes me think it has nothing to do with anything. So lost. (If I ever get one of these right, I have a quiz to give.)

The captions are so funny and I'm so busy saving the fantastic images (the high quality ones anyways) to my Met photo library that I don't even bother to guess. I want this one to go on for awhile! Here's a colorized Charlie Smith. Sorry about the watermark. Just crop out his head. When I was a kid my family didn't have a color TV until I graduated from 8th grade. And I was harping for so many years for one (since the '66 Batman TV show hit the screens) that my folks got me a small tiny color set for my bedroom . They got it for just me!!! (we got a big console/stereo one for the living room a short time later). I'll never forget when I watched my first baseball game on it. Of course it was the Mets on WOR-TV! The green was so beautifully green, the dirt so wonderfully tannish, the Mets blue so royally blue, and the interlocking NY on the Mets caps danced around like a little orange flame when they were in motion. Same when I attended my first Mets game. When I walked from the tunnel (not my very first game, my father took me to a Yankee game for a firemans outting- Godawful lighting and I got the seat behind a girder. Gah!) I was just in awe. The Skankee game was a night game, and I remember seeing Gates Brown ( I was collecting baseball cards by this age-10, I guess) from the limited view I had of the field. And Norm IforgetHisLastName (On preview: CASH!). But the Mets game at Shea was a beautiful bright vividly sunny day, and when I emerged from the dark tunnel, I could swear on a stack of bibles, that the Mets caps had a little orange flame on them! I will never forget this. Never. Anyways, not having a color TV until I was a newly fresh teen has heavily influenced my love and need for color. Not that I don't appreciate B&W photos, especially old ones circa 1920-1950. But I'll even look at them and think:"I wish that was in color".... Me thinks Big Al has influenced my writing. Don't worry, it'll pass. ;)
