Just about every game, there's some goal line play where they go on and
on about the ball breaking the goal line plane and show forty replays while
some monkeys in NYC chew on it for three minutes and they decide the ball
did indeed break the plane and the ruling on the field stands. That ball shattered
the plane. He had control crossing the plane. Someone pllease explain.

Sorry, I like them. His kids play lacrosse at RU and 6 Patriots are from RU. Hard for me not to follow them kindly.

Some reason I like Brady. Joe Willie Namath will always be #1.

Yes, they are stuck up to the max.

I did a good amount of business with Bostonians, K. O'Leary for one and it was difficult at best.

No disrespect Willets.

Re: Stinkin Patriots

The difference in the play re: the 'breaking the plane' stuff is that, on a pass, the receiver is not considered to have possession of the ball unless and until he either runs with it (made a "football play" is I believe how they describe it) or hits the ground and maintained control of it throughout. That second part is what got the play overturned. A runner making that same move would have been awarded the TD since he had possession all along and therefore the 'breaking the plane' effectively ends the play.

And at the risk of repeating myself, the whole idea of replay just being an all-knowing eye in the sky that will retroactively correct incorrect calls and not be an active agent that causes a change in the way the game is played/reffed/umped remains a fantasy and in fact is only becoming more intrusive.

Of course no one told Ben Baconcheeseburger to throw an INT on the following play so you can't lay it ALL on the stupid replay rule.
There was no way Pitt couldn't have at least tied up that game and yet they managed to find a way.

I dislike Brady, I think i dislike coach Belicheat much much more.

I love me some Kraft though. wish he owned all my favorite teams from East Rutherford to the Garden to Flushing.

Re: Stinkin Patriots

I know FK, and thanks typing that all out. I'm fine with the football play
thing on the 30 yard line. My beef is once that controlled ball crosses
the goal line there's no football play left to be made. Play's over. TD.

Needs to be fixed, can't take TDs away like that imo.

My thoughts also. They're overthinking these things.

Re: Stinkin Patriots

How is it a complete catch if he juggled in the end zone and the ball hit the ground.

Doesn't matter if it went past the goal line. It still has to be a complete football catch.

Re: Stinkin Patriots

if you are juggling the ball, never have full control of it, and it hits the ground before you gain control of it, that isn't a catch and it shouldn't be a catch anywhere on the field.

an easy question to ask is "if that football had been hit off a bat and the receiver was an outfielder, would the batter be out?" if the answer is "no" it is definitely not a catch.

Re: Stinkin Patriots

He wasn't juggling the ball when he crossed the goal line. The `football
move` portion of the rule needs to be amended and I predict it will be.
There's no `football move` to be made once you've already scored.

Doesn't he have to land with a "football catch"

I believe the league will clarify and use the rules commitee.

I've said it like four different ways. The call was right, the rule when
applied to a TD review needs to be fixed.

Re: Stinkin Patriots

The bottom line is, that a 'reception' is not the same thing as a 'catch'.
The receiver caught the ball but it was not a legal reception.

And the league, given multiple chances to rework the rule and multiple embarrassing reversals of common sense, have failed to fix it for years now.
The NFL somehow maintains the image of being an 'innovative' league (mostly due to their free-PR firm: aka, the national sports media) but I'd argue that they're often the least.
Hell, this was the outfit which took over a decade to change the "tuck" rule.
