2017 not ending so well....

Rockin' Doc
Dec 23 2017 08:42 PM

Yesterday morning, I learned that I have a melanoma on my left upper arm. Now I just have to hope that upcoming tests do not find that the cancer has metastazized elsewhere within my body.

Then this morning, we learned that my father in law passed away last night. My wife's youngest brother found him when he stopped to check on their father on his way to work. We are packed and awaiting the arrival of my son, so we can head up to WV to arrange my father in law's funeral. This will be the second Christmas, in the past 5, that our family has spent in a Charleston, WV hotel due to the passing of fathers. Really puts a damper on one's Christmas spirit.

Sorry to hear, RD... hopefully they caught it early and that it's a speedy removal of what
needs to go and that's that. Keep us posted on your progress.

Condolences to you, your wife and family this holiday season.

Re: 2017 not ending so well....

So sorry for your pain and your loss.

My holiday season is equally depressing. Was rushed to the ER the night before Thanksgiving with bleeding ulcers and admitted for anemia. I even needed a transfusion, which I'm told is rare for someone my age/health.

Having surgery this week to alleviate stomach torsion that has caused the pain, and the bleeding. Three weeks of baby food to start the new year should assist with my annual resolution to lose weight.

May 2018 bring us all peace and health.

Re: 2017 not ending so well....

Had my surgery last week-- procedure went well and I am home on the road to recovery.

This was essentially the same as a gastric bypass, so my swollen stomach cannot accept any "real food" until the healing happens-- baby food and a pureed diet for two-three weeks. I'm simultaneously hungry and full: its crazy, but getting old, fast. My relative youth and relative health should speed that process, and it will be a relief not to suffer from the insane symptoms I had for years, but man what I'd do for a meatball sub right about now.

Broke my Metacarpel hand bone due to a frustrating night of caretaking for my mom.

Today 12/31/2017 4:07 p.m. is the second anniversary of Ashie1' passing. Coming to turns with it.

Truly a New Years Eve to remember..

Hang in Doctee, it does/i]D get better!

Happy New Year to all CPF'ers & their families.

Re: 2017 not ending so well....

Glad your on the mend, Doc Tee. I would be happy to lose 10-12 pounds following my upcoming surgery, but I don't anticipate that. I'm truthfully more likely to gain a few pounds from being unable to go the the gym and workout for a few weeks.
