Resolutions 2018

The typical ones for me. Eat salad. Work out. Save some money.

But for this year, I'm going to try to be a positive person. It's really the only way to live. I was watching a few clips of the Ellen DeGeneres show. She really has dedicated her life to bringing joy and positive feelings into everyone's lives. I think I want to be like that. Tolerance, patience, appreciation, understanding and support. It's going to take a lot of effort, but I'm going to give it a try.

It's like ABNS's charity thread every year. It's an awesome thing to do. I'm going to try to do some awesome things this year.

Re: Resolutions 2018

Lose 20 pounds. Just like last year and the year before that and the year before that....

And work my ass off for a political candidate. It's too important to be on the sidelines this year.

Re: Resolutions 2018

lose 30 pounds.

write more. at least 10 posts for October and somewhat 'regularly' for Optimistic Mets Fan.

possibly related to the last one, have some more direction professionally. This is really vague and I don't know how/where to achieve it. But try to figure that out.

Re: Resolutions 2018

Swear less
Drink less
Get back on lo carb diet because it really does work
Fret less
Leave people alone

I doubt I'll fret less but the others are do-able

Re: Resolutions 2018

Drink less. Run four marathons. Be more patient with my loved ones. Keep finding new ways to improve myself. Guide my children towards a smart adulthood.

Re: Resolutions 2018

i like the positivity thing. it really does make a difference.

one thing that i'd learned about, believe that it works, and have failed to meaningfully incorporate into my life, is taking note each day of three good things that happened that day (or maybe just one thing if coming up with three things seems too hard off hte bat), without any snarky backhanded compliments or somesuch. for instance "managed not to kill my coworkers with my terrible pumpkin potato pineapple salad" would not qualify.

the idea being that we seek out negativity by our nature, and that by forcing ourselves to find positives, each day, we push back against that negativity bias to better ground our mental states. by focusing, even for a moment, on the good around us, you are more able to take on the bad, or simply let it pass on by.

so, spurred on by your mention up there, i'm going to take time at the end of each day and take note of the good things each day. i have an unused small journal-type thing that'll be perfect for the task.

other resolutions include such things as be less fat, spend less time on my phone, run more, and be more patient with the kids, even when they're acting like a-holes. i considered starting a running streak, but fuck me is it cold outside! i'll start streaking when its warmer.

Re: Resolutions 2018

Some good ones so far. I think I am resolving to get a girl preggers this year before I am too damn old for this kid thing. Or date a girl with a kid so I have a built-in, half-a-kid. Current g/f is deciding how much she likes after I shared this lil revelation with her. Fun!

Re: Resolutions 2018

I'm kinda depressed today, so positivity is a good start for resolves.

I guess a couple of others this year are a) be more patient with the ever-growing
amount of assholishness in the world (and try not contribute to it), b) cook more,
eat better... we've slipped the last couple of months and c) put more effort into
lining my pockets and not the pockets of others.

Not a resolution but goal: Turn 1/2 of our basement into something more fun
than a storage unit for old crap and a catch all for stuff better thrown out on bulk-
trash day. The basement is 'finished' paneling and sheet rock over rock foundation.
Problem is (for starters) it looks like it was last attended to when The Andy Griffith
Show went color from b&w.

Re: Resolutions 2018

I realized yesterday that I didn't have any kiwis in 2017. My resolution is to have one this year.

Also lose weight, stay positive, exercise more, drink less but I think I can pull off at least the kiwi.

Re: Resolutions 2018

i'm curious how that comes up. had you been tracking your kiwi intake somewhere and noticed an exceedingly long gap?

Re: Resolutions 2018

No. Just occurred to me yesterday so I adopted it as a resolution. I'll need to go by the store tonight -- think I'll pick one up.

Re: Resolutions 2018

aw dang. i was hoping for a dusty tome, dedicated solely to the task of tracking your consumption of fuzzy brown fruits, recently rediscovered from the back reaches of a forgotten bookshelf.

Re: Resolutions 2018

So I had to dig this up after posting about the basement in the other thread.
First off, we need to know: has sharpie had a kiwi yet in 2018?
