We don't seem to be talking about Eduardo Nuñez

I couldn't find an Eduardo Nuñez thread, but the way things are progressing this offseason he's beginning to look more like he may be the guy the Mets bring in.

I know little about him. What do we all think?

Free agent. Turns 31 in June. Split time in 2017 with the Red Sox and Giants. .31/ .341/.460. 12 homers, 33 doubles, 24 stolen bases in 114 games. 146 hits, but only 18 walks.

I'm sure that there will be a lot of reasons why he's less than perfect (there always are) but is he the best remaining choice out there?

Re: We don't seem to be talking about Eduardo Nuñez

I would take a hard pass on Nunez.

1. Speed doesnt age well, he will be 31 this year
2. His career beat OBP last year (.341) was the only time in his career he had an acceptable year in that area, and it was largely driven by an unsustainable high BABIP (.334) well above his career norm. As he slows down, expect it to get lower than even his past norm.
3. Defense is mediocre
4. Yankee taint

I dont think he is better than Cabrera and id rather see what Rosario has. Rosario's defense likely makes him a bettet player already.

I wouldn't think he'd displace Rosario or Cabrera but instead would join them in the infield.

Have the Mets ever had an all-Hispanic starting infield?

Walker is the best choice.

Nunez would be fine, i guess. he really doesn't walk enough though.

You're all in on Harrison?

Re: We don't seem to be talking about Eduardo Nuñez

I doubt it will be Harrison. Sandy stated clearly yesterday that he prefers to go with a free agent, and with several out there I would think that that's the way he'll go. That's why I'm thinking that Nunez is becoming more likely. So, I guess, is Jose Reyes.

Tend to agree with this.

We already have Wilmer. If they are going to pay a veteran, it should be someone who improves the defense. Frazier for 2 years or less is my choice.

Yeah, Walker or Frazier are the guys I would want

I think I am a Harrison man.

I think Sandy is pretty good at the Magic Quotes. One way to interpret "it's more likely we'll sign a FA" is "Pirates are currently driving too hard a bargain but I'm a patient man."

I'm also not giving up on Jason Kipnis

I like Kipnis, but I'd rather see us spend Fred's money and not trade a good asset. If its a salary dump, great.

I did too. It allows him to work the Indians, the Pirates, and Neil Walker's agent against each other. But the Twittersphere seems to have insisted on treating that statement as money in the bank and they've already gone out and written emotional checks based on it.

He could keep letting the market come to him well into the spring. Fans might show up at St. Lucie with guns, but hey!

It's Florida. They probably will anyway.

If it improves six or seven notches it might get up towards mediocre.

OK maybe that's overstating it, but not by much.
He's a train wreck as a SS and merely less bad elsewhere.
