Re: Okra?

If okra can put together a solid platform and run a campaign that captures the hearts and minds, it could be a valid contender.

Re: Okra?

Hm. There's no upside in replacing one vegetable with another.

Re: Okra?

Unless it's corn on the cob. Corn on the cob just CANNOT be beat

Butter ...salt...chapstick and floss later...

Re: Okra?

Are you sure we haven't already elected corn?

I have it on good authority that Okra was born in Africa. I want to see the long-form birth certificate.

Re: Okra?

Look for pickled okra at your local grocery and try them. Delish.

Re: Okra?

As per TV's Cajun Cook Justin Wilson, gumbo cannot be called gumbo unless it has okra in it.
And okra must be "de - slimed" before you use it by frying in a pan it to get the oils out.

Re: Okra?

I like my okra slimy.
I also like it breaded and deep fried with some fra diavlo on the side.
(or a nice remoulade)

Re: Okra?

I probably don't know how to prepare it but I find okra slimy and weird.

Lately we are into alternative grains that are too cool for the rice aisle: Freekeh, millet, eikorn, etc.

Re: Okra?

Not a big fan of okra, but I do love cajun/creole gumbo.
