Re: 2017 Tabloid Cover Derby Round 4.0.1 (SEMIFINAL)

BLUNDER is terrific.

[list][*]They turn his nickname on it's ear, just as is called for by the story. Turning WONDER into BLUNDER may feel cheap and obvious elsewhere, but there's nothing cheap about it here, not on this day. He earned it.

[/*:m]
[*]They work the backup head NATIONAL DISASTER into the subhead. That SHOULD have been the story. But Syndergaard's demigod pride actually made things worse, and they recognized that was the real lede. The Mets didn't just lose the game, their season died that day, way earlier than it should have.

[/*:m]
[*]Look at Ray Ramirez' enormous watch!

[/*:m]
[*]Ray is in exactly the scurrying, helpful-yet-useless position you expect eager mortals to be in when trying to support the grave work of giant superheroes. It's right out of the movies. He's Clark Gregg or Giovanni Ribisi or somebody.

[/*:m]
[*]They took the time to set 23-5 in red with a white outline. While lamenting Thor's pride-before-a-fall and the extended leave that you anticipate it will all cost, let's not forget how historically bad this loss was. The Daily News wasn't about to let you.

[/*:m]
[*]The Daily News #1 medallion, bumped almost completely off the page because they don't want to cover anything else.[/*:m][/list:u]

GOD OF BLUNDER is the Mets Tabloid Cover of the Year and you all know it.

This poll has two fewer votes than the other poll that was launched on the same day. Giving it a bump just in case someone overlooked it.

GOD OF BLUNDER needs your help!

Just voted. Things are tightening up!

(As an aside is it legal for the TCD Administrator to campaign for a cover? I think this is a direct conflict of interest. Stockholm has been put on notice.)

Agreed.

The only thing I don't like about the cover is the stupid red font. Same problem as the Trespedes cover. I hate it hate it hate it. Leave the block letters alone.

LOLOL. Great post.

I just can't back a headline that puts any of our boys in a bad light. At least not when it's up against a positive one.

FAKE NEWS!

This poll is now tied! Such drama! Anyone else care to cast a vote? 17 people voted in the THANK YOU CARDS vs IN THE BIG INNING thread, and only 16 have voted here. That 17th person, whoever it is, is the potential swing vote here.

How exciting!

Re: 2017 Tabloid Cover Derby Round 4.0.1 (SEMIFINAL)

Voting in this poll has ended, and GOD OF BLUNDER edges TRESPEDES, continuing its Cinderella run. GOD OF BLUNDER now advances to the final round.

Vegas oddsmakers had had TRESPEDES as an early favorite, primarily because of its similarity to our two previous winning covers, 2015's TRESPEDES and 2016's CES BOOM BAH! The third time, however, wasn't the charm, and TRESPEDES moves to the sidelines.

CES BOOM BAH really was a terrific cover.
