I have inquired about what I assume this pertains to through a PM to someone I assumed was an admin here. Was I mistaken in doing all this assuming? I know what it could turn two people into and I'd rather not have that happen.

indeed. i understand why people want to block him, and have no problem with that. everybody needs to do what they feel they need to do to be comfortable around here. And i understand why the forum's moderators felt a suspension was in order. I don't agree, but i understand and do not object or second-guess the decision. But i do hope he returns after 30 days, everybody takes a deep breath, and we can just start over. He may be an asshole, but he's our asshole. I know i've certainly been guilty of assholitude from time to time around here (some would say "often"). So have some of youse, too. And i wouldn't be happy with the loss of any of you. I still miss Sal. And Paulie Cee.

I consider him a friend. Maybe my closest friend here. We communicated a lot thru PMs. He made me aware of crooks selling my cards on Ebay. I'd have never known. I hope he returns. I should preface this by saying I'm just speaking for myself and not Edge or Ben. Clean slates work both ways. I can't imagine that there will be a "clean slate" if he returns. (And frankly, I hope he doesn't.) That chip on his shoulder will be bigger than ever and he'll probably be even more insufferable. The Goldwater Rule prevents me from speculating about what kind of psychosis causes someone to nurse an ongoing grudge over an innocuous statement like "I assume you're not a burger flipper". He goes from lashing out at everyone to wondering why nobody seems to like him. His positive contributions are heavily outweighed by the negative. It's hard to appreciate someone who dumps a wheelbarrow full of manure in your living room and then mitigates it by posting a 2007 Daily News cover with a cartoon drawing of the Mets taking a bus to Philadelphia. Good riddance.

I miss Batmags. I went and reread the Butterball Field thread last night (I'm about to take the topic to facebook, which, IIRC, I recommended the CPF fb page do a while back). I think (or hope) it's clear from our years of trying to manage the forum with BatMags in it that the admins want nothing more than a clean slate. There's no disputing batmags brings some good things to the table, and a long time fan-ship. I also hope it's utterly clear that this isn't about any issue with one poster or one administrator. He has had many years here, but there are also many years of folks who should be able to enjoy themselves here but can't, and moderating is the difficult job of protecting the interests of both.

I think the point we should remember is that you politely asked him to refrain from using a certain word, and he went apeshit and started posting it over and over again, opening multiple threads, posting it everywhere, for about 24 hours before he was cut off. That's not the reaction of a rational person.
