Six years. $126 million. Incentives could take him up to $150.

Per Ken Rosenthal.

The team has played in 3 straight NLCS and has a World Championship.

And now adds an ace.

Just saw this. I thought the Twins were going to win this one.

I'm not sure Darvish is an ace.

Game on for Lance Lynn, Cobb etal.

The Cubs have got quite a 1-4 right now. Lester, Hendricks, Darvish, Quintana.

Essentially replaces Arrieta in the Cubbie rotation.
Which will be the better pitcher going forward will be an interesting story to watch.

Reports are that Eppy called Arrieta (gentille Arrieta) before closing the Darvish deal and see if wanted it (or a similar deal) instead. When Arrieta didn't jump, he signed his own walking papers.

Dunno. I see Darvish as a risk they might regret.

Have to say I was shocked he got that kind of money....Darvish doesn't scream ace to me , but I guess this is the going rate for pitching

I assume that they know it's a risk, and that it's one that they're willing to absorb if things don't work out.

He'll probably be fine for the first few years. In 2022 and 2023 this might be a bad contract, and I'm sure the Cubs know that.

Yup. I'm thinking they're hoping to have a few more championships in their pocket by then.

A few more than the Mets, quite likely. Must be nice having big-city
dough to throw around and gamble with a little.
