Trainer's Room: Injuries in 2018
Edgy MD Feb 25 2018 04:25 PM |
Dominic Smith is suffering from a strained right quad, almost certainly sustained on that dynamite stretch he performed yesterday. He has an MRI (which stands for "a Met is Really Injured") scheduled.

In the great tradition of Mickey Mantle and Eliott Maddox, Tebow's ankle injury is the result of an unfortunate interaction with a sprinkler head.

Ceetar Feb 28 2018 01:22 AM Re: Trainer's Room: Injuries in 2018 |
|
no, he said he wasn't willing to commit to that. you know, because he has to progress to that point and it's still February and he's starting slowly due to stiffness? but it was more of a "will he be ready in time" thing than a "oh, he's gonna miss three months" thing.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Feb 28 2018 12:38 PM Re: Trainer's Room: Injuries in 2018 |
Mickey sez JdG needs 5 starts to be ready for OD. Daily Snooze says in order to get 5 starts he needs to begin no later than this Sunday. Sunday's start rests on how his scheduled throwing session goes this week.
|
Ceetar Feb 28 2018 02:18 PM Re: Trainer's Room: Injuries in 2018 |
|
Sure but if he starts Tuesday he can start 4/1 instead of Opening Day. Or they can decide he's good to go but they'll limit him to 85 pitches for his first start of the season.
|
Benjamin Grimm Feb 28 2018 02:34 PM Re: Trainer's Room: Injuries in 2018 |
And if deGrom starts the fourth or fifth game of the season instead of the first or second, it's no big deal at all. We just have to hope that this doesn't turn out to be more serious than they're saying. (When has that ever happened?).
|
Ceetar Feb 28 2018 02:57 PM Re: Trainer's Room: Injuries in 2018 |
|
a billion times. it's the norm, but you instantly forget when it doesn't become more serious because it doesn't become more serious. deGrom's already saying his side session went fine and he doesn't see any reason why he wouldn't be ready to go.
|
Benjamin Grimm Feb 28 2018 03:01 PM Re: Trainer's Room: Injuries in 2018 |
I think you misread me. I certainly wasn't saying that injuries never turn out to be minor. My "when has that ever happened" was a sarcastic reference to injuries becoming more serious than first reported.

Fman99 Mar 10 2018 02:38 AM Re: Trainer's Room: Injuries in 2018 |
Someone sez Smith is now likely to start the year not ready for the major league roster, due to his quad. I think the writing's been on the wall for this since Yo Adrian got signed. He's got options and hit below the Mendoza line last year, they were jumping at any excuse to get him more "seasoning."

these things always seem to sort themselves out (usually due to injury). That's why i'm never concerned about having "too many starters". A surplus is rarely a problem; most often, its the lack from which a team will suffer.

All the time Vargas isn't missing Montero is. As alluded to in his Expectations thread, Rafael has been diagnosed with a torn UCL in his pitching elbow and will likely require TJS.
|
A Boy Named Seo Mar 22 2018 04:31 PM Re: Trainer's Room: Injuries in 2018 |
Wild timing. The decision on what to do with him gets made, and the Mets no longer risk losing him and can see what they have in 12-18 months, I guess.
|
Benjamin Grimm Mar 22 2018 04:32 PM Re: Trainer's Room: Injuries in 2018 |

You can't remove an injured guy from the 40 anyhow.
|
Nymr83 Mar 22 2018 06:38 PM Re: Trainer's Room: Injuries in 2018 |
|
the 60-Day DL removes him from the 40 man in-season. I suspect he gets cut next offseason to keep him from impacting the 40 then (along with the negotiated retirement of David Wright)
|
Edgy MD Mar 22 2018 06:44 PM Re: Trainer's Room: Injuries in 2018 |
It doesn't really remove him from the 40. It just keeps him from counting against the 40-man limit. For all other purposes, he's a man on the 40, with all rights and privileges, only moreso.
|
Nymr83 Mar 22 2018 07:04 PM Re: Trainer's Room: Injuries in 2018 |

oh yeah, that's true, i'm thinking about him wasting a roster spot or not, i don't care that he is entitled to Wilpon's money or anything, that is a non-problem for us.

Apparently, Robles is with the team and will be activated on Monday. I really don't care if he's healthy and there is a lack of healthy pitchers, there is no way that Robles should ever pitch again for the Mets. I would rather have Doug Sisk pitch for this team and I don't mean Sisk from 1984 I mean now and he's 60.

Given the way the team's fortune has been going, frogs, lice, boils and locusts are not out of the question.

Sad to see this about Tebow, who was making real progress. But why is Schefter tweeting "stick to basketball?"

Edgy MD Jul 23 2018 07:46 PM Re: Trainer's Room: Injuries in 2018 |
Hidden upside: Publickly reporting that Syndergaard has Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease can only help to ease up his jammed social schedule.

Mets give the finger to the DL -- Brandon Nimmo's bruised index finger. BIG D, the 26th man from Williamsport, sticks around in his stead.
