Switching to head to head also means switching scoring systems which sorta means our keeper choices might've been poorly informed. I included a 'switch in 2019' option in the poll if you like the idea of switching, but don't want to do it yet for this reason.

The only difference in Fangraphs/SABR points is that Fangraphs penalizes pitchers for hits and is very slightly less punishing for HR (-12.3 instead of -13)

Currently we're Roto (OBP, SLG, HR, R and ERA, WHIP, HR/9, K)

H2H would be

AB,H,2B,3B,HR,BB,HBP,SB,CS and IP,K,(H),BB,HBP,HR,SV,HOLD

H2H gives us the options of divisions. Either 2 or 3, which you can comment about or we can vote about after. I would probably just assign the teams to divisions in sequential order of standing last season to try to divy it up fairly competitively.

Re: 2018 Otto: H2H?

i'm currently undecided as to how i feel about he switch to h2h. i think that the biggest change is going to be the sudden valuation of running stats and relief stats; more importantly, the devaluation of the rate stats.

i mean, i can make the adjustment, sure, but i liked that key differentiation between this league and any others readily available.

i don't know that h2h really, truly makes the league more competitive, at least not moreso than simply adding playoffs does. the sucky teams are still going to suck, and they'll dig themselves a hole either way. if you don't have a good roster, you're not going to win head to head matchups.

if there's enough momentum to move towards h2h, i'll play either way. but i much prefer the current 4x4 roto.

Re: 2018 Otto: H2H?

I like the different stats, but I've been finding the rate stats pretty frustrating in practice. A lot of the super overperformers are luck, or at least heavily fluctuating. especially WHIP which would feels like there are only a couple handful of actually 'good' guys at WHIP and the other is random fluctuation and adjustment that may not be correlated to playing time so it's hard to pick guys. Solid strikeout relievers might be called upon to IBB guys, etc.

I dunno. Nothing is perfect. I've felt like once you fall behind in rate stats it's harder to catch up, versus having a bad two months of head to head means you can still make the adjustments and be good the rest of the way instead of having to be that much better to make up for the early struggles.

I think hth might be fun, I have little feel for the rate stats, and even the "counting" stats are out of hand these days

Re: 2018 Otto: H2H?

Not that I'm in this league, but ABNS and I play in a 6x6 roto H2H league and it's great fun. Each week is like a reset button. Make 1-2 changes each week on Sunday night, pick up the hot hand, and you can be competitive.
