Hank you, everybody! Hank Webb you! My gift has been the late kick of our much adored, shih tzu, Lily. She's of an age when we don't speak of her age, and she was seemingly on the clock this week. We were having serious discussions on letting her go, but damned if she hasn't been rallying. Bumble has been suffering old-man confusion in recent months, waking up in the middle of night screaming. [list]"AM I BACK IN KOREA?! WHERE'S CHARLIE?!!!" "No, go back to bed! There is no Charlie!" "ARE YOU CHARLIE! THAT'S JUST WHAT CHARLIE WOULD SAY!! WHERE'S MY SPRINGFIELD!!" "No, go to sleep! You weren't in Korea. Besides, I'm pretty sure Charlie was Vietnam." "IS THIS NAM?!! LET ME AT 'EM!!!" "No, you're at home in bed. Go to sleep." "DID RUSH BREAK UP?!!!!"[/list:u] And on and on, yelling incoherently into the night—EVERY night—with me arriving at work in the morning looking like I had the night shift at the emergency room. We tried different meds at different cycles and they just made him crazier, but we've finally got him at a dosage that has him sleeping peacefully. We actually had an appointment to say goodbye, but he's doing pretty well now, and if Lily can get a little strength back, we'll be a whole family again. At least for a little while.

Thanks and affectionate thoughts right back atcha. I actually got a Met cake. My friend Elizabeth, who had thus far exhibited no great baseball affection, showed up with a cake that had a Mister Met design, with a marbled orange and blue interior. I almost hated to eat the old guy. Pictures tomorrow.
