EXPECTATIONS FOR 18: Dave Eiland

Hi, I'm your new Mets pitching coach. That Warthen slider guy is gone and I have it on good authority that Manging Mickey isn't micro managing.

I know what you're thinking. The Mets are back to hiring peripheral Yankee coaches and give them the bigger job in Flushing that they didn't quite qualify for (or hold down) in the Bronx. Kevin Long. Rick Down. Willie Randolph, for Pete's sake.

But allow me to rebut. It's spring. I'm seeing a lot of guys down here. Hundreds, if you count players, coaches, and other support personnel. And not a lot of them have a ring. One of those MLB championship rings. I do — heck, I've got two of 'em — and that ain't nothing.

So hopefully that gets me a little big of slack. How much? I don't know. Maybe you do. What's my 2018 going to look like?

Eiland talks about pitching inside -- which, if nothing else, should make Ron & Keith happy.

If Skip (a good pitching guy) has kahnfidence in him, I share that kahnfidence. I don't
expect we'll be talking about him much in 2018. And that's a good thing.
