EXPECTATIONS FOR 18: Matt Harvey

I had a goal. It was a filthy goal, involving models and drugs and cars and a whole Charlie Sheen thing. It was gonna be awesome. Reality show awesome.

But you know, lately, the models haven't been calling back. Not the Ford ones anyway. I'm a ballplayer, and you can always get a model. Or some chick who says she's a model. But the big-timers? The heavy hitters? They're not calling back.

And the car payments are seeming a little more wasteful when you don't know if your last contract is going to be your last contract.

I was the king of the world. Just yesterday, and now, I don't know. But you know who does call me back? Mickey and Speedboat. From Brownsville. I tell them I'm done with that shit, but they say know me better than that. I just don't know.

OH GOD, there's so MUCH I don't know. What's my arm slot? What's my pitch limit? What's my next surgery? It was all so easy so recently.

I'm almost too scared to ask, but what's next?!

Harv in 2018: better, but not great. A tryst with second-tier Instagram-famous Croatian model who is hot by any standard, but not a top-shelf Russian, Vogue cover model. And less importantly, we see above-average pitching bolstered by an increased velocity and a more stable command of the strike zone.

11 wins, 170 IP, 155 K, 3.75 ERA.

The Mets offer him an extension, which he naturally declines. He shits the bed in his last start as a Met and walks off with a dirty smirk on his face. In the offseason, he signs a 3-year contract with the MFY. Simultaneously becomes the most hated former Met and the most popular Yankee not named Jeter.

BONUS Expectations for 19: Matt Harvey Edition

Accidentally slices his right hand on a broken champagne flute at a giant, Red Bull™ / Tinder© industry party, requiring surgery to repair a nerve in his hand. He pitches 50 very poor innings in the Bronx, is DFA'd, and sadly retires at age 32, a very bloated Long Island Duck with an ERA in the mid 6's. A sad, cautionary tale.

Re: EXPECTATIONS FOR 18: Matt Harvey

I'll never love Harv, but there's only so much room in my doghouse and right now Matz is commanding a lot of it.

Harvey is redeemable and knowing Harvey, will put in his best year in a while to cash in on next year's free agency and give Met fans who like him, but hate themselves and the team, a very good reason to justify their Harvey-like self-interest.

Could be very interesteing to see what happens in July if Harvey plays as well as he can and the Mets offense performs like crap, which seems to me to be more likely than the other way around.

So therefore: "Good" Mets O: 16-8, 3.50, 200 innings
"Bad" Mets O: 7-7, 3.50, 120 innings, traded to San Francisco

Re: EXPECTATIONS FOR 18: Matt Harvey

I had high hopes that he would be better in this, his second season removed from surgery. But unfortunately, the spring looks like only a slightly better version of last year. I guess that TOS is no joke.

Middling back end starter. High 4's in ERA. Leaves after this year and is largely forgotten afterwards.

4.75 ERA, relegated to the bullpen in July amid laughable complaints from his agent that his 5 ERA free-agent-to-be deserves to start.

Re: EXPECTATIONS FOR 18: Matt Harvey

I think a fresh start is going to be good for him. His pitches still had velocity and movement, he just needs to be able to command them better, reliably. I think starting the season off with a new plan, trusting his body so to speak, and a new set of coaches helps. a lot.

3.32 ERA (though there are two pretty bad games that account for the brunt of the mess)

28 games 9.13 K/9, 2.2 BB/9 4.6 fWAR.

Longest outing, 8.1 IP.

Pitches the division clincher.

Bryce Harper goes 1-13 against him, the 1 a soft flair the opposite way.

Pitches game 5 of the World Series. gets the win.

Re: EXPECTATIONS FOR 18: Matt Harvey

4th best starter in 2018 even though notching 12 wins. 3 or so of these wins
will be somewhat lucky ones because he is due for a little luck.

14-10, 3.75 ERA over 200 IP. Not superstar material, but good enough.

Re: EXPECTATIONS FOR 18: Matt Harvey

Three runs in three innings on seven hits for Harvey so far this afternoon in San Francisco. Not that we couldn't have used that today.

Keith Hernandez revealed today that he tried to reach out and have Harvey reeled in.

Reports leaking today that some team or another has claimed Harvey on waivers. Billy Hamilton also.
