Gil Hodges-era Met (and Rusty Staub trade bait) Ken Singleton is no Vin Scully, announcing he will be retiring from broadcasting (and the YES team of ex-Mets) at the end of 2018.

Trivia: Singleton was allergic to wool in an age of wooly uniforms and had to wear a special new fabric

I've heard that. There's a story (true or not) that Singleton asked the Mets to provide him with a uniform that wasn't wool (polyester maybe?) and the Mets didn't want to go to the extra expense. The Expos, however, were willing to accommodate him and that explains his improved performance once he got to Montreal.

If I were ever to meet Ken Singleton, that's the first thing I'd ask him about.

The second thing would be how to pronounce "Jeurys".

I remember it because I am allergic to wool as well, and I loved that one of my beloved Mets was

Sorry Ken

Aaron Laffey, after giving it one last try in Las Vegas, becomes one of the Mets in retirement in 2018.

2015 backup catcher Johnny Monell, after also giving it one last try in Vegas, also becomes one of the Mets in retirement in 2018.

Always kind of liked Monell. Even though he couldn't ultimately cut it, he had a little pop and always seemed fiery.

A Met legacy from the Bronx, and he looked good in the shower. I sure don't say too many bad things about Johnny Monell.

I wonder if John Maine's father ever played with Johnny Monell's father in the Mets' system.
