Nothing really surprising, I don't think. Of all of them, I would think that Jamie Callahan had the best chance of going North, especially since it seems that the Mets are planning on an eight-man bullpen.

Yah none too surprising. Flexen pitched well, though. See ya in September, David Thompson!

Re: Disinvited from Major League Camp 2018

That pretty much finalizes the catching staff and guarantees that Flores Reyes is our fifth outfielder.

Only thing up in the air is the back end of the bullpen.

Re: Disinvited from Major League Camp 2018

Sewald didn't help himself in that regard by blowing up in the 6th inning just now, giving up a single, a walk and a 2-run triple, followed by a Sac Fly.
He's still probably going to be on the opening day roster anyway.

Sewald
Robles
Rhame
Montero

When Vargas returns, they either release Montero or send down Robles, Sewald or Rhame. Gsellman and Lugo start the year at Vegas.
When Conforto comes back, one more pitcher will have to go, because i don't believe they'll send Nimmo down at that point.

The real interesting tidbit is the cutting of the last candidate for second bullpen lefty.

Maybe the first week of the season, that job goes to Matzy anyhow.

Boy, Robles was promising once but made a U-turn somewhere along the way.

I was hoping that the two new pitching gurus that the Mets hired (the manager and the pitching coach) would find a way to fix Hansel. I guess it may yet happen, but hopes are certainly dimming.

That turnaround looks like what's been happening to his pitches.

Kinda glad to see this. Mickey said he wants the best arms coming north and Robles isn't one of them now. I don't want to give away games in April while talented dudes try to 'figure it out'.

RHP Zack Wheeler demoted on March 24.

There goes that rotation everybody's been sort of dreaming about a little, maybe.

I'm guessing this means that Evans makes the team.

Lugo will be "in the rotation" but my guess is not really due to the normal preponderance of off days in early April.

Wow. And he was pissed about just going to the pen. I think Collins would have been very hesitant to do this. The pen, sure, but not a send down during ST.

Calloway is a tough love motivator type.

I like :)

Re: Disinvited from Major League Camp 2018

It's a move that makes sense really.
He has options, there are other choices so he's clearly NOT one of the best five right now, and just as clearly he needs some time to figure out what's wrong and prove to them that he can fix it.

fwiw, his ML service time currently sits at 4 years + 98 days. So IF he were to be kept down four nearly four months this year then the team would steal themselves an extra year of control as ZW wouldn't be
eligible for FA until after 2020 season rather than the current projection of 2019. Otoh, if he pitches poorly enough to warrant working his ass in Vegas for close to 2/3 of the season then when he hits the FA
market no longer remains a high priority.

Unless Conforto has surged into consideration, it appears Evans will jump on in.

If Michael doesn't, he starts the season DL'd along with Wright, Rivera, Vargas and Montero.
