Re: Marching on 3/31/18 IGT

I'm taking it as a confidence move. With the Cardinals running three righthanders in the first series, he doesn't want Lagares to go the whole opening set without getting a start. I'll bet Flores starts tomorrow.

Also, I #love the Alarm vid.

Re: Marching on 3/31/18 IGT

Used them in game one because he wanted to get them the work. Used them in game two because the situation (to his thinking) called for it.

He had an opportunity to go to Blevvy with a pair of runners on and a lefty up, but he surmised (probably correctly) that Matheny would pinch-hit with a righthanded batter, and so saved Blev for the possible appearance of Carpenter up in a game situation later in the game.

It would have been a good time for our non-existent second lefty, but Swarzak did a good job getting out of it before getting tagged the next inning. It was the theme of the afternoon: All three relievers came in mid-inning, sat down, and returned to pitch the next inning.

Nice 3-man IGT. Zvon gets the Schaefer by the slimmest of margins.

Today was new gf's first Met game. She looked them up on Wikipedia and now knows more about Bill Shea than I do. She thinks Travis is cute and that Shea Stadium sounds nicer than Citi Field. Beautiful, if chilly, day for a ballgame. Spent most of the day wandering around with friends because sitting was just a little too cold. Really, really long lines at the main gate for a non-sellout, and seemingly even longer lines for concessions. Maybe they're just not in midseason form there yet. Build a Bear giveaway is super cute, and I resisted three (!) offers to purchase it off me. Sorry, other dads. Gotta get there early.

We were eating Fuku out in the CF Kid Zone when my buddy looks up at the screen and says "we could use a homer here" just as Wacha goes into his windup and WHAMO Cespedes goes yard. We went bananas.

Going back tomorrow, solo if anyone's around to chat, and there's an extremely good chance that I'm going to take home one of those gigantic lineup Topps cards from last year for the new office.

I looked it up. It was Joe Schultz, who went 2-4 batting cleanup for the Brooklyn Robins on opening day against the New York Giants, before taking the collar out of the leadoff spot in game two.

It was a bit chilly but bearable (if you'll pardon the pun). We got there relatively late- about 12:20 by the time we got through the gate, and they were still handing out the bears, so I suspect they had more than 15,000. One guy had a sign asking for bears and had a bag that I bet had at least a dozen of them in it that he'll probably be posting on ebay tonight.

Next time I go, I MUST get one of those Mr. Softee Home Run Apple soft serve thingies. Much cooler than the Helmets, but the lines were too long.

Too many stupid games between innings! Rolling huge dice was just embarrassing. Bad minor league stuff.

Cespy's home run was nice, but d'Arnaud's must have dented one of the M & M's on the wall in left. That was a bullet. Love deGrom pitching gutty ball without his best stuff.

After two games I find myself wondering, are the Mets this good or are the Cards this bad? Have to see what the Harvester yields tomorrow.
