The world needs a second lefty. It's a thing. Eighth-inning guy, long man, swing man ... second lefty. We talk about getting over the strictness of bullpen roles, and then we SHIT when we don't have guys to line up with strict roles. The Mets don't have a second lefty out of the bullpen on their roster. But they have a second lefty. And that's me.
Oh, I'm not going north with the team. I'm going west. But sooner or later, just you wait, young man ... or young lady ... folks will be saying "Where's our SECOND LEFTY?!"
And all eyes will turn to me. Or Fernando Abad. Or Kyle Regnault. Or maybe even David Roseboom or Ben Griset or Kelly Secrest. Did somebody say Daniel Zamora? Who the hell is he?
But hopefully me. I've been the second lefty guy all through camp and I'm not going to let a late-comer like Abad or a wannabe like Boom take my spongecake. I may have only gotten five innings this spring, but I put up a 3.60 ERA and, frankly, that was five innings more than the rest of those guys. I got cool black-framed glasses and that's SO big league, plus a penchant for beards that speak of TESTOSTERONE. Folks mistake me for Rhame and maybe folks will accidentally give me a call thinking I'm him.
That's Purke. Rhymes with quirky, and if that doesn't scream SECOND LEFTY! I don't know what. I'm a thing. I'm happening. But when I'm going to happen and what's going to happen is unknown. You tell me.
