EXPECTATIONS for 18: Amed Rosario

I'm the youngest, slickest, fastest, bestest shortstop prospect to come along since, well, since my mentor guy, José Reyes. I tore through the minors while the organization tore their hair out, pulled between BE PATIENT YOUNG MAN on one hand and DON'T CURB YOUR AGGRESSIVENESS on the other.

These guys, they don't know what they want. They apparently don't want Dom Smith, and he's a first-rounder. But they want me, and they want me enough to give me Mookie Wilson's number. How about them apples? Heck, they gave Kranepool's number to Reyes, so that's got to be a nice vote of confidence.

I'll be starting at shortstop six days in seven and hitting at the bottom of the lineup for now. Where it goes from there, it's up to you to say. But make sure you use a lot of superlatives.

Know what happened in 2017?

I did.

Re: EXPECTATIONS for 18: Amed Rosario

Thinking as a Mets fan does, my expectation is that he will make it easier not to be upset when they release Reyes some time after the ASB. So I expect great things from him.

265/325/425. Gets better. Looks like the best SS in the league some nights. Some nights, not.

.280/.325/.440, but mostly what JCL said.

A growing year, the last one before he becomes an perennial All-Star.

I hope he shows that the Mets indeed have their shortstop of the future. A player they can build a perennial contender around.

Now that he showed he can walk today, the sky's the limit.
All-star starter for the foreseeable future.

A rocky start develops into witnessing the birth of an MLB stud in 2018.
Put it in the books!

some flashes. some improvement in walk rate. great defense. some fun moments. Is the one to take Cabrera's helmet post-home run.

144 games. 9 HR. 6.6 BB%, 29 K% .280/.310/.409

9 hits in the NLCS.

Re: EXPECTATIONS for 18: Amed Rosario

My first thoughts went immediately to Ricky Trlicek and Pedro Beato. But in the end, I settled on Chick Galloway, roaring 20s shortstop of the Philadelphia Athletics..278/.327 with a coupl'a HRs. Plus a stint on the DL when he climbs up to sit on and and then falls off of the Citi Field flagpole after leaving a speakeasy in a drunken stupor.

Re: EXPECTATIONS for 18: Amed Rosario

Not looking good so far.

I don't think anyone expected him to be worse than 2017, but that's exactly what he's been. Struggles to make contact. Swing looks long and loopy. Even the occasional power has disappeared.

I don't know how long you can carry him. Maybe you send him down to get straightened out and give Cecchini a chance.

Surprisingly, Edgy's audition to create new 7 Line shirt logos didn't go well.

Re: EXPECTATIONS for 18: Amed Rosario

Last night's AB was pathetic, but he prob should have either been bunting or swinging away, not back-to-back butcher boys. That's gotta be super difficult. Either way, he's looked overmatched and has a shit grasp of the strike zone. And that beard. I think a few weeks in Vegas would be a very good thing for him.

Re: EXPECTATIONS for 18: Amed Rosario

The thing is, as far in as the corners were cheating, he didn't need to draw them in further by squaring.

I realize it's not the current philosophy, but just make content and tear ass. You're young and fast as hell.

Re: EXPECTATIONS for 18: Amed Rosario

If it's any consolation, the Mets last precocious teen phenom shortstop prospect, Jose Reyes, was far more lost and overmatched in his first full season. In fact, for all but the last month of the 2005 season, Reyes was the worst everyday player in baseball.

Re: EXPECTATIONS for 18: Amed Rosario

Can we take any solace that Dansby Swanson was kind of terrible last year and now looks to be less terrible?
I want Rosario off the big league club for now but am not ready to write him off entirely.

Re: EXPECTATIONS for 18: Amed Rosario

I actually think Rosario is way down the list of the Mets problems.

Below Conforto's slugging percentage, Cespedes' batting average and Jay Bruce's power.

Below the shaky rotation

Below the underwhelming seasons so far from Ramos, Familia and Blevins

Below the fact they don't have any major league catchers

Below Smith's lack of development

Below deGrom's health

Re: EXPECTATIONS for 18: Amed Rosario

Below the bench glue slathered on Nimmo's ass?

Below the mental state of Matz?

Below the DNR status of Matt Harvey's career?

Below playing escort for the Braves coming out ball?

Below the reality that the team has been faking it in the leadoff spot since 2012?

I tend to agree with JCL.

But the biggest problem is the rotation.

Maybe this time he's actually coming around?

Kinda frustrating that the kid has been hitting for a month but his OPS is still not within striking distance of .700.
