So, How Is This Team Going To Do In 2018?

We are 26ish hours away from the 2018 baseball season. How do you think the Mets are going to do this season?

Give me your W-L prediction, where they'll finish in the division, whether they make the playoffs and, if so, how far they'll go.

84 wins. Second place. No playoffs.

PROVE ME WRONG, METS!

(But in a good way, please.)

Re: So, How Is This Team Going To Do In 2018?

I think they'll probably go 86-76, which is sort of a disappointment and also, a big improvement over last year. Somehow, that gets them into the playoffs where they roll and win the WS in 7 games over some team you didn't see coming like Seattle or Toronto

My feeling is that the chances they'll do worse than that are much, much greater than the chance they will do better, but I want to hold out the hope they can.

90-72, win division, lose NLCS 4-2 - pass the brownies, please.

Re: So, How Is This Team Going To Do In 2018?

I wish I was more enthusiastic, but last season took the wind out of my sails after 2015/16 and I'm not sure how much they improved over the offseason. I like that the new manager is younger and fresher, but I'm also concerned that he has no ML managerial experience. The only chance I see for them is if most (if not all) of the regulars can avoid long stints on the DL for the duration of the season. I'm not convinced that they can.

My expectations:
78-84
3rd Place in the NL East
No playoffs

Re: So, How Is This Team Going To Do In 2018?

I was debating going with my heart or my head. Heart wins out.

94 wins. Division title. Washington is bombarded with injuries and out of realistic contention by late August.

Win the World Series. Everyone goes nuts.

Re: So, How Is This Team Going To Do In 2018?

538.com predicts that the Nats will be the only team in the NL East to finish over .500. The site has the Mets and Phillies in a tie for second place, each team finishing with identical 79-83 records. The Mets are given a 1% chance of winning the WS.

That's the Wilpon plan, most of the time. Assemble a team that, on paper, could win 85, 86 games, and then hope for enough good luck to exceed those paper projections.

85-77, just miss the WC based on tie-breakers. cuz that's just the way we roll.

I don't know how accurate/up-to-date online Vegas odds are but
one site has Metly WS Win at 25-1, Divisional win at 9-2.

Pretty optimistic, that 538, eh? Having the Nats as the only winning team in the division is also consistent with the Wilpon strategy for this season: cross your fingers and hope everything holds together until Bryce Harper's out of the division and Daniel Murphy enters the decline phase of his career.

Re: So, How Is This Team Going To Do In 2018?

This team is skating on thin ice, just like last years' was. I think injuries, a weak bullpen, and a spotty offense are going to bite them again, and the Phils and Braves will be better than you think. 75-87, fourth place. Maybe after this they'll do the rebuild right.

Re: So, How Is This Team Going To Do In 2018?

I’m going to be optimistic and say 80 wins. The bullpen, defense, and lack of team speed all give me pause, and I can see the record being worse.

I'm going to say 81-81 for the Mets' first .500 season.

83-79, second place, not good enough for anything of a postseason nature, but maybe something to build on.

My guess, too, but making the wild card, then the World Series.
Winning in seven games, the winning run coming in on a Stanton error.

I usually start this thread but I've been attending to other, less fun things.

84-78, second place, not good enough for anything of a postseason nature, but they are close enough to the WC so we have hope into September.

Orange and blue-colored glasses? Maybe.

92 wins. Win division. Win NLDS over Cubs; defeat Dodgers in NLCS; defeat MFYs in World Series.

All of these!!! Especially the last one. To be a fairytale season to me, we'd also have to have a tiebreaker for the division with the Phils where something amazin' happens that goes down in Mets history. An unbelievable fielding play, a fantastic display of hitting, a no-no,....whatever.

Here ya go d'Kong:

Weird, Gsellman-and-Lugo-and-d'Arnaud(!)-fueled winning streak gets us close, but it's not quite enough to overcome the bloody injuries. 84-78, with meaningful games in September.

Re: So, How Is This Team Going To Do In 2018?

Little late, but

Mets 92-70 and make it to the NLCS.

Mets win the NLCS and defeat the Yankees in the WS in seven games

Noah Syndergaard wins the CY Young.

Thor, deGrom, Harvey and Matz all pitch over 175 innings.

Mets stay generally healthy.

I have no idea how they will end up, but I sure like the way they have started out. The team is playing solid baseball thus far.
