Harvey pitching for his career?

Re: IGT 04/19 - Mets at Braves

That hadn't occurred to me but perhaps for a spot in the rotation
in the near future? Speculation is Vargas will be good for a start in
San Diego next weekend. Matz recovered nicely after that bad first
inning last night so he's on less of a hot seat than Harv? We'll see.

Re: IGT 04/19 - Mets at Braves

I have yet to see too much from the 2018 Harvey that is different from the 2017 Harvey.

It's getting harder and harder to believe that he is going to turn around.

Re: IGT 04/19 - Mets at Braves

I know it's cold and all, but Harv's average FB velocity is 92.6 per Fangraphs. If nothing else, we know the spring training guns were definitely on the juice.

He looked so good in that first start. Come on, Harv.

Re: IGT 04/19 - Mets at Braves

His pitches still have movement, even very similar movement, though his velocity has come down every year ,even from last year (but it's a cold small sample still for this year)

Mainly, he's working slower and guys are making more out of the zone contact. suggesting that he's just not fooling them or the pitch isn't breaking as much as usual so it doesn't drop away? But the movement seems similar so perhaps he's just missing his spots. There does seem to be some indication that he's not getting his changeup as low as he usually does. Difference between crushing it at the bottom of the zone and swinging over it?

it's such a game of inches. The whole difference here might just be that previously Harvey could pinpoint the ball to a 3in circle and now he can only hit a 5in circle.

Wisler has faced the Mets ten times previously (6 starts) including five time in 2017 - so this isn't some unknown quantity here.
Overall he's 3-2 with a 3.66 ERA and 1.24 WHiP

The right side of the infield showing very limited range there. Gonzalez was holding the runner on but that was one of the softest grounders I’ve seen get through an infield.

Got to get him into the lineup.

Damn, the Braves considered starting Sims tonight, but decided to call Wisler up and have him start instead. Unfortunately for the Mets, the Braves made the right choice. Sims really sucked in relief of Wisler.

Blevins has been awful, with and without rest and geez faced more than 1 batter only 2 or 3 times all year. I wouldn't call him overworked. I'd call him shit.

Re: IGT 04/19 - Mets at Braves

I really don't get using Blevins last night. The more I think about it, the less sense it makes.

First off, Blevins has appeared in 11 games. That's 1 off the MLB lead (12, Blake Wood and Sam Freeman). Granted he hadn't pitched since Monday, but generally we are going to want to limit Jerry's appearances as much as possible given he's our only lefty.

Secondly, it's a 4 game series. Why would you give them a look at Jerry in a spot like that? You figure FFF is going to come up in a high leverage spot some time this weekend. Why give him extra looks in a blowout Game 1? And allowing him to face that many batters. Now you may have burned him for tonight. (Or if you pitch him tonight, for the day after). Makes no sense.

And not that I think it ultimately made a difference, but without the Blevins blowup, the winning run comes to the plate in that 8th inning.

Yepp. Trying to imagine how that conversation would go with any other player. They're all pros and they want to play every day, of course. I'm certain Reyes still wants to play every day, but at least he knows he sucks right now and accepts his role. Throw Harvey's ass in the pen. Let him try to hit mid-90s for an inning and sniff success again. Or be playing for the Long Island Ducks in 2 years. Whatever, dude.

Re: IGT 04/19 - Mets at Braves

What if the Mets decide they don't want Harvey around for a while but don't wanna release him? They could DL him with some fake injury --- if Harvey goes along with the ruse. Or you could have another ugly Ollie Perez situation with Harvey taking up a spot on the 25 even though the Mets might be loathe to use him.

I'm dumb on transaction stuff, but if Harvey has options (which I think he prob does), the Mets could simply demote him without exposing him to waivers, no?

Re: IGT 04/19 - Mets at Braves

Because Harvey has at least five years service time, the Mets would need his consent to assign him to the minors.

Interesting -- Harvey came up seven seasons ago, but pitched more than 100 innings in a season only twice.

Re: IGT 04/19 - Mets at Braves

Gary and Ron talked about that last night, sometime around the fifth or sixth inning. Gary broached the topic of Harvey going to Vegas to work on things and Ron used up about five hundred words of verbal gymnastics to say diplomatically, "Harvey's way too much of a dickhead to ever accept a minor league assignment".

Thanks, I mean I guess I know this. For some reason DFA's, waivers and such
makes me skittish to speak definitively about transactions.
